Here is a twitter video of Pickens making a hell of a run after catch. He's a big guy to be making these moves.

I mean obviously the staff will get the benefit of the doubt but why did they have to see him in person again before they offered? Is his junior film not that good? I haven’t seen anything until that but for a guy his size that supposedly has good hands I’m just kinda baffled he didn’t have an offer until recently. And now it might be too late to make a push. We have no tall receivers besides an unproven Shavers and senior Kief who hasn’t done anything. Of all the offers given out I dont understand why he didn’t get one until recently considering our lack of receivers over 6’1. If we offer earlier and he commits then at the worst we keep Hoover and Birmingham locked down and we recruit over him like 50% of our classes are anyway. At best we get a tall receiver with great hands that can make people miss and keep Auburn out of Birmingham. (I know we recruit nationally now but we won’t once Saban is gone and I’d like to see us continue to dominate the state. We have great athletes here. Now auburn is making great relationships and I bet they will take a few that we want in the future. See last year. I am glad to see this new staff working the state hard this year though) . I mean receiver isn’t a huge priority anyway and it seems to me his upside is pretty damn good. you can’t teach height. It just seems like a good gamble to take for me. Good thing I’m not the coach I guess. Off to watch his junior “film”, maybe I’m wrong

Holy shite TLDR. I’m drunk and didn’t realize I rambled that much.
TLDR: why didn’t we offer Pickens after seeing his moves at his height. Seems the upside is worth it with our lack of unproven tall receivers and not a huge need for receiver this year.

After watching his highlights from the first page (Thanks for making that easy TideSaint) it’s obviously not as good as that one play lol, but I stand by my statement. He seems to me to not have a lot of top end speed but looks decently quick to me Not as physical as I thought he would be but does block pretty well, which is obviously vital for our offense. A lot of jump balls that he meets at the top, which I obviously like to see at his heighth. Overall he looks like a good possession receiver to me that could contribute after a few years in the program. You can’t teach his heighth. I’m No expert and am kinda amazingly wrong when it comes to football so he probably won’t be shite. I’ll stick to my day job but I just like to see Alabama players winning national championships for us.

Honkers Ale was one of my favorites but it seems the AB takeover and how they process it now just does not have the same taste anymore.

Tall receivers overrated and its not like we throw fades or anything. Maybe we thought he was all AU.

On Pickens, I think it's a combination of two things:

1) WR isn't a massive need for us in this cycle.
2) Pickens (and his family) has a long history with Malzahn. He may have told us some time ago that he wasn't interested in Alabama.

I want Nnamdi Adim-Madumere as the big WR in this class. He's a contested catch style WR, very physical after contact too.

Shavers won't be unknown for much longer, assuming he's 100% this Fall.

You dont think he will move to TE?

I also wonder if UA likes him as a Flex-TE, since he weighs about 220-225.

4* TE Keon Zipperer 6-3/230 (FL) hudl -- Recently voiced his concern that Bama hasn't shown him as much love as UF and Miami, and he's a great Flex-TE prospect. He visited UA in Feb and April.

4* TE Ethan Rae 6-5/240 (CA) hudl -- Offered by UA this week. He expressed excitement & strong interest in UA and wanting to visit soon. A UCLA legacy, but claims he's open to going elsewhere.

Milton Wright (6-3/195) is another big WR/S that Bama likes a lot. Fast, athletic, tough.

There's been some recent reporting that Bama also likes Devonta Lee (6-2/212) a lot at safety.

Bama's WR, HB/Flex-TE, TE and safety recruiting is sort of murky right now. WR and both TE types aren't pressing needs in the 2019 cycle, so Bama can afford to be very selective there. Landing a couple of great safeties is a high priority though.

Not sure where his standing with us was, but either way, it's a good get for Pruitt. He can play.

I think Bama wants to take these three ILBs: Shane Lee, Nakobe Dean and Christian Harris.

After Bama landed Lee, who's physically ready to play and locked in with the Tide, the potential need to take a Juco ILB dropped like a rock. Harris and Dean are also physically ready.

If Bama misses on Harris and Dean both, they might want Lakia Henry, but even then they might prefer Mohamoud Diabate and Rian Davis over Henry.

When talking about his commitment, Henry sounded like he's open and still shopping, so UT may have trouble hanging on to him. He's pretty dang good and they need him.

Top 100 WR George Pickens 'really open' with college recruitment (247Sports-VIP)

4-star WR George Pickens 6-5/199 (AL) hudl

Had 200 yds & 2 TDs in spring game vs Snellville, GA played at Troy. "It's really open... trying to see as many schools as I can..." Bama, Oregon offers last week, Michigan, FSU, UF in April. Has visited UGA, FSU, UF, plans to visit Bama soon, FSU again, Michigan, Oregon, maybe USCe. Sounds pretty positive about and interested in Bama.
