That article says they feel they're going to sign him but then a couple of sentences later they say they're not sure what he's going to do. Sounds like they're being optimistic to try to get more interest.

Yeah they're optimistic that they are going to flip him. It's going to be a whirlwind two weeks. Hank on BOL has been adamant that we are going to sign him, and it isn't the 50/50 battle that Michigan feels it is.

You get many more clicks by giving hope, then you do saying it's a long shot. The way they portray it, I'm sure the readers are visiting often, waiting for that post that makes it sound better than 50% or even an outright flip.

Ray and Solomon they are too good to miss on.Then Devontaand Ruggs. Everything else is gravy.
If we kept everyone (but Dean) and signed those four I would be very content regardless of whether we signed another prospect.

For those who have 247, here is a Najee update from the Michigan side LINK
-The first point is that they've been reporting for months that Michigan thinks they land Harris.
-The second point is the same as Hank's, that he will likely just show up to wherever.
-The third one is that a lot of the information reported is old, and Michigan doesn't know what Najee will do. (Does that invalidate their first point?)
-The last is that UM isn't recruiting any other RBs outside of Najee and their 2 RB commits.

UGA thinks they have a chance with Solomon if they can get him on campus. Problem is that he already has all of his OVs scheduled (none to UGA) and Kipp doesn't see him making a midweek trip there. So, it will definitely be something to monitor to see if he cancels any of his current OVs.

“I really feel like my brother wanted me to be in the SEC,” Ridley said. “He knows that it’s a big deal. So he just told me like, ‘Riley, I believe you should go to Georgia.’ He thought that this would be the best place for me and I didn’t second guess him.”
This is what Riley Ridley had to say about Calvin. Interesting that he pushed his brother to UGA instead of Alabama.

Said it while Jeudy was waivering, was waiting on someone to turn on Calvin because he was telling them to go elsewhere.

If immediate playing time was important to Riley, I could see Calvin telling him to go elsewhere. Or maybe Riley, while talking to his older brother daily, didn't want to go to a place where he was Calvin's little bro, and Calvin recommended UGA because of Smart.
Or maybe UA is so miserable that our players are telling people to go elsewhere.

IIRC, Riley wanted to be an early enrollee and we didnt have a spot for him and asked him to wait until May. He didnt want to and was close to enrolling at South Carolina. He also mentioned NOT wanting to be Calvin's little brother but him almost going to South Carolina is why I honestly believe that Calvin stepled in and recommended Georgia.
If we had the EE spot for him, he would have been here. Especially considering the fact (in hindsight) that we missed on pretty much all our signing day WR targets (not to mention the crazy transfer exodus). Diggs and the kid from Clay were already in the fold.

I'm also hopeful that Townsend winds up at DB.
Sounds like our main two priorities at DB now are flipping Henderson (who our staff apparently likes a whole lot) and Gibbs.

Watched Townsend play this year.......needs LOTS of work at DB. Almost no technique, all athleticism that works in HS, not SEC. Electric with the ball though, think he's better at offense, but will need some time to get there at DB.

I can't understand why we don't have elite defensive linemen knocking down our door this cycle, with what we are going to lose and the way our dline has been playing the last few years. You would think it would be selling itself, come play early for the best dline in the country. Buggs was a big get get for immediate help, and we are still going to be excellent with our starters (probably buggs/Davis, Payne, hand) but there is a lot of good playing time available for a college ready true freshman like Solomon or Wilson

End of the day, gotta have the passion for it.
Ardarius Stewart probably would have made a fine safety, but he didn't buy into it when put to task.

Losing Bo Davis has a level of responsibility.
Yes, he wasn't the primary recruiter for every single DL, but recruiting players is set out so far in advance it isn't even funny. It's all about the relationships you build, one or two years in advance from their actual recruiting cycle.
Why I disagree with the sentiment of Dunbar being brought in for a year. It wasn't a planned hire by any means, but they feel arse backwards into a great situation to get him. They gave him a pop fly or two in recruiting this year, but that stability is important for future classes.
If the situation comes the Dunbar does wind up back in the NFL, I hope he made his intentions clear when he took the job initially. That way they already have someone in mind for the job if he did leave.

I agree with your post completely, but also think that continued dominance by our D Line despite losing its long term coach also has its advantages.

A guy I'm excited about is Kyriq McDonald. I'm not really sure how he's a 3 star. His highlight film looks like he's got a whole lot of Tyrann Mathieu in him on the defensive side of the ball. He's just an instinctive defensive player. Baited a lot of throws on the tape and picked the ball off. He must have blocked 6 or 7 kicks/punts. He just looks like a natural out there that isn't going to take much coaching, and he's built like a pine stump. I won't be shocked at all if he's in the rotation next year because he is going to play early on special teams.
Watched Labryan Rays film last night too. For a high school kid he is an absolute technician with one of the better swim moves I've seen at that level. The kid just plays like an Alabama defensive end. He uses a powerful punch to jolt the tackle, gets his eyes in the backfield to read the play, and sheds the block. Perfect size for an end in our defense. He's a must get
With those two and Monty Rice, I'm not sure how James Clemens lost a game

Tua Tagovailoa and Alex Leatherwood talk Najee Harris
The biggest recruiting storyline in college football over the past several months has been figuring out the mysterious recruitment of Alabama 5-star running back commit Najee Harris, who is the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit.
Harris has been committed to Alabama since April of 2015, making him the Crimson Tide’s longest-tenured commit. That hasn’t stopped the media and college football fans from speculating on the status of his commitment to Alabama.
But if you ask two of the Tide’s most important commits in the Class of 2017, 5-star offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood and 4-star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, there’s nothing to worry about. Harris will be in Tuscaloosa with them next month as the trio will be early enrollees.
“I know Najee is going to stick with ‘Bama,” Leatherwood told SEC Country. “We are his family. I’m confident because I know Najee. Media and social networks manipulate what’s real into what makes a good story.”
Leatherwood spoke with Harris last week, and he said there was zero indication that one of his best friends in the class flipping his commitment. He did say that Harris told him that his official visit to Michigan was “very fun,” but he still feels the same about his commitment to Alabama.
Leatherwood is actually hoping he gets to room with Harris this January in Tuscaloosa. Both recruits are very similar in their manners: They usually do not enjoy talking to the media and are strictly focused on working toward their goals of getting to the NFL. Out of the 2017 commits, Harris may speak with Leatherwood the most.
As for Tagovailoa, he and Harris built a strong bond this summer at The Opening, Nike’s football camp for the best high school football players. Tagovailoa created a small Bible study group during the week and Harris was a part of it.
The two shared very personal info with each other during those Bible study sessions. Tagovailoa can’t see Harris flipping his commitment because of the bond the running back has established with himself and other Alabama commitments.
“I think he’s going to stay committed to Alabama,” Tagovailoa told SEC Country. “He has a great relationship with many of us who are being recruited to Alabama. I talked to him last month and he didn’t say anything about Michigan.”
While Harris is a private person when it comes to his recruitment, he has been somewhat open with the other Alabama commitments when it comes to what he’s going to do. Leatherwood said Harris never mentions Michigan unless he brings it up to him in conversation.
There’s not an ounce of worry from Leatherwood or Tagovailoa when it comes to Harris flipping. Michigan is viewed as the top contender for Harris’ services, but California and UCLA are still in the mix, too.
The Wolverines have two running backs in the Class of 2017, but that’s not going to play any factor in whether Harris chooses that school. The kid loves competing against the best. It’s one of the main reasons why he committed to Alabama in the first place.
I asked Michigan running back commitment Kurt Taylor what he thought of Harris potentially joining him in Ann Arbor in 2017.
“It’s always great to see when an athlete has an opportunity to go to his college of choice,” Taylor told SEC Country. “Michigan is a great school with great tradition, so it doesn’t surprise me at all that he likes Michigan. I felt the same way as well when I committed to Michigan.”
Taylor wasn’t sure of Harris’ plans and said the Michigan coaching staff has not notified him of the possibility of the 5-star talent joining the program.
Where Alabama has a significant advantage in Harris’ recruitment is just the length of time his relationship with the Tide staff stretches when you compare it to Michigan’s. It’s well known that Harris likes Jim Harbaugh, and some in his inner circle say he prefers him to Nick Saban, but no relationship competes with the one he has with Alabama outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi. Lupoi is from California and has connected with Harris, his mother, mentor and trainer going back to when the running back was in the eighth grade.
That matters.
“Alabama has been in the picture before this kid became somebody,” a source told SEC Country earlier this week. “Everyone else came in after all of the hype started to surround him. People can get mad at Alabama all they want, but they were one of the first schools to believe in him.”
As I’ve stated for quite some time now, it’s going to be very hard to flip Harris away from Alabama, despite what you may read elsewhere about this being a 50-50 decision. The more people I talk to about where he stands in his recruitment, the more surprised I would be if he ends up going to Michigan or any other school.
In the end, the relationships Harris has established with the Alabama commits and coaches are going to be difficult to overcome for those schools still vying for the nation’s top recruit.
