I start off every recruiting year not knowing anything about any of these kids and telling myself I'm just going to wait til right before NSD to dive in. Then you jokers get me hooked and by the end of August I practically know every kids' blood type and favorite vegetable.

Alabama loses commitment from 2018 tight end

Tight end Malcolm Epps is no longer committed to Alabama, his father Wisley confirmed to AL.com.

Epps, a four-star recruit in the class of 2018 from Dekaney, Texas, had been committed to Alabama since Feb. 27, 2016.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Epps also told reporters the news at The Opening Regional in Houston. Wisley Epps said he believes Alabama is still in the mix.

Epps told 247Sports on Saturday at the regional that Alabama is still his No. 1 school, but he wanted to get the full recruiting experience and didn't believe he could do that as a committed player.

Epps is the nation's No. 6 tight end and the No. 126 player nationally. Florida State, Michigan, Texas and Nebraska are among his other offers.

Alabama signed two tight ends in each of the past two classes and inked two Texas tight ends this year in Kedrick James and Major Tennison.

Alabama has three current commitments in the class of 2018 - Bainbridge, Ga., running back Dameon Pierce, Memphis, Tenn., defensive end Jordan Davis and Hollywood, Fla., receiver Xavier Williams
