Tim watts put that pick in over a week before his Ohio state visit.
He will likely know if Najee were to flip.

Tim did a crystal ball forecast post after the official visit to Ohio State (before Baron delayed his announcement for a couple of days). Again, I realize its fluid but he was wrong on that one. I think the Najee situation would play out similarly IF he were to decide to enroll at UM.

My concern with Najee is if he was coming to UA 100% why has he not shut down all the speculation? I know he does not like to talk but nothing out there about signing papers for either school for that matter but only he may be announcing, I am not even sure he is really committed at this time and again for someone that up to this point has been quite I see no reason for the drama now unfolding, which may have more to do with UM sites speculating but it could easily be squashed

My problem with the situation has everything to do with Akers. He isn't committed to Alabama because of Najee. I think most understand that. Don't let him announce and then decide to flip. Give the staff time to plan accordingly.
I still think if he was going to decommit, he would've already done it.

Najee Harris will make a final decision during his Christmas break, but he won't announce it. He will just show up to whichever school after the US Army All American game. This per BOL.
So looks like we are screwed out of any EE backup if he does flip.

The Bama staff hasn't talked to Akers in months. That is all you need to know about Harris sticking with the Tide.

The coaching staff, not insiders, know what he's going to do. I'm not worried.

Devil's advocate: We did visit Anthony McFarland Jr. during the contact period.

we are trying to flip this 2018 QB: Jacob Sirmon
He's from Washington and is committed to Washington. I'd say our chances are slim to none.

Jimmy Smith on Chris Allen's recruitment:
quote:
For example: Chris Allen was set to commit to Alabama after one of the junior days. LSU caught wind of it and brought him and the family in the next morning and temporarily put a halt to it. The morning of July 28, right after my son was born, Cam called and gave me the scoop on the visit that transpired the day before. Allen gave LSU a commitment on July 27. He planned to go public shortly after, the 28th, and I put out the alarm. Well, he changed his mind overnight, without me knowing obviously. That is an example of not only what happens, but how fluid and quickly things can change. I wrote up 3 commitment stories for that kid, but he struggled to move forward with a public announcement. That's recruiting. I don't mind looking wrong to the guys that don't read me. The ones that are in my chats, interact on social media, call me, text me etc. love it. Don't like it, don't read it. Won't cost you a $ either way.

Akial Byers still fighting through academic struggles
It’s been said before here on SEC Country that 4-star defensive tackle commit Akial Byers had to overcome some academic issues in order to qualify. He’s still fighting through those issues as 2016 comes to an end; however, there’s growing confidence that he’ll be able to enroll.
Fayetteville (Ark.) High School coach Benji Mahan wouldn’t disclose the exact issue Byers is facing, citing Byers’ academic privacy, but he did say that the Under Armour All-American is working hard on making sure he gets to Tuscaloosa this summer.
“He is closer now than he has ever been to clearing those hurdles,” Mahan said. “I just know that the plan is much clearer and the hurdles don’t seem as high. I can say that there are some fantastic people at Fayetteville High School and at the University of Alabama that are mindful of keeping the students as their top priority.”
Mahan said the Alabama staff has remained in close contact with Byers throughout this process and has provided support to him as he continues to work toward graduating from high school.
“They’ve been outstanding,” Mahan said. “Just more proof of why they are so consistent in their success.”
We’ll get a chance to see Byers next week at the Under Armour All-America Game, where we hope to get more of an understanding as to where he stands with his academic work. Byers has definitely been the most mysterious recruit in this class. I’ve never spoken to him and haven’t seen quotes from him anywhere since he made his commitment to Alabama in July.
If Byers becomes an academic casualty who has to attend junior college, much like what Alabama 2016 signee Kendell “Hulk” Jones had to do, there are several defensive linemen that the Tide are in the mix to bring to Tuscaloosa. Outside of top defensive line targets Aubrey Solomon and LaBryan Ray, Alabama also is heavily recruiting 4-star defensive tackle prospects Javon Kinlaw and Phidarian Mathis. The Tide were also viewed as the favorite at one point for 4-star defensive tackle Elijah Conliffe. He’s considered to be a backup option at this point.
