Gibbs will come down to his mother. Rodney Orr and many others have said that he prefers Bama and that his dad is on board, but that it's all about winning his mother over.
This year has been kind of a bizzaro world for us in that regard. Generally, the mothers slobber all over Bama's program and can't wait to send their child to such a structured program.

FWIW, I've heard a couple people that have contacts to Gibbs' HS that don't have bad things to say about his play on the field, but hear a LOT of issues outside of that. One of them in particular really hopes we don't sign him. Take that with a "grade of saw".

It's funny how we almost always hear this type stuff late when it looks like a recruit might go some place else. Not directing this at you in particular, but at this type of mentality in general. It's stupid. Where was this info over the past few weeks?
We hit on some and we miss on some. The beat (and the machine) moves on either way. No need for this type post, IMO.

Our "insiders" are the worst when it comes to this. It's like they can't say we were just plain outworked by another staff. They make up this crap to say we didn't get beat.

Is it looking like he's going elsewhere? Sounds like we have a pretty good shot to me. Regardless (and I know you're not directing it specifically at me), I'm just a parrot here. But this person (former player who I often cite by name here) has mentioned this for a while now.
We say the same about guys we sign (and were always considered the leader for) like Mack Wilson. And that looks like it'll turn out well. And who has anybody done it with this year? That we passed on Wade? I don't think anybody ever proclaimed that we would definitely flip him if we tried to get him. And now it's been confirmed by everybody that we did.
It really DOES happen sometimes. Not sure why it's so tough to understand. We get guys other schools back off on from time to time. For some reason this board tends to go in the 180 degree opposite extreme of the Barn and L6U sites that spin everything. A lot of that is good, but you can go too far in either direction, IMO.

Our staff has taken character risks before. Sometimes they turn out for us (DJ Pettway) sometimes they don't (Jonathan Taylor)

Where would Bama go to at safety if they miss on Gibbs? Stevens isn't coming, Devon Hunter is a longshot, Todd Harris maybe? Does Bama try to get Rico McGraw to transfer if they strikeout the rest of the way at safety.

Daniel Wright is a safety. I don't think we have to have more than 1 safety in this class. We have Minkah, Harrison, Hootie, Deionte Thompson all returning next year.

That kids return to tiger stadium may need more security than Kiffin's/Bama return to Tenn year one.
But seeing we could have a convoy of LA kids.
