I'd have no interest to accept any West Coast school into the SEC.

It’s happening. Washington and Oregon are being invited to the Big 10.

Apparently momentum has been lost on the exits of Oregon and Washington. Renewed optimism that they remain in a redevelopment of the PAC 12.

That post didn't age well lol.

About as good as Richard Young to Oregon.

So, inevitably the SEC gonna try to keep pace with the B18, so who do they add?

Why?

Let them water down their league.

Bigger is not better.

Adding Texas and Oklahoma made sense. It made the league stronger. Outside of Notre Dame, I can't think of another athletic program that would add to what we already have.

Why?

Because there's an imbalance.
Maybe if the Big 10 can keep it at 18, and the SEC with to be 16, then it won't be inevitable.
But, if they go to 20, the SEC will have to react.
I'd hate it, but you can't have 20, or more, in one conference, and only 16 in the other power conference.

That doesn't mean the SEC should increase their numbers.

Why not?

Again, bigger is not better. Why slice the money pie 20 ways when you can get more money with 16 teams?

We would have to add programs, not just football teams, that would add value in all sports while also opening up television viewership.

Notre Dame is good at practically every sport. Their fanbase is fricking enormous. But they are in Indiana.

Who else moves the needle out there?

North Carolina would be the next program in my opinion. They somewhat fit geographically and their basketball program is an all-timer.

Nobody West of Austin is worth pursuing. We already have South Carolina. Adding Clemson makes no sense. Florida State had an opportunity to join in '92 but they pussed out.

Virginia Tech? Pass.

TCU? Meh.

I agree that nothing West of Texas is of any interest to me.
An occasional game between us and USC in football or Gonzaga in basketball is great.
But, if it's mandated with conference games? Meh.
NC foot print and maybe VA is all that would be needed.
Clemson would not help, as you say.
FSU would, IMO

I'd almost say grab Miami because of the TV market but a lot of SEC Schools recruit well there and this might shut that pipelike off.

Miami is great when they are winning titles in the Big East.

Since moving to the ACC they have been abysmal. If they were to face a SEC schedule they would finish no better than 6-6 every year.

Their fan base doesn't do them any favors either.

Notre Dame and UNC would be good additions to the SEC.

I said this from the start on the last expansion when Texas and OU declared they were leaving. I said it made the most sense for Arizona, ASU, Utah, and Colorado to join the B12.

North Carolina, Clemson, FSU and VT.

Two big time football programs and two teams that increase the TV market.

It's a matter of when and not if the SEC expands again. Florida State is really wanting out of the ACC and, when they leave, Clemson is sure to follow. Once those two schools have departed, the ACC will collapse and there will be another scramble to gobble up certain teams before other conferences have a chance.

Florida State, Clemson, and Virginia Tech all make sense for membership in the SEC because those fan bases fit our culture. It's also an added bonus that all three schools reside in the Old South and thus make geographic sense as well. But we can't take just three schools as everyone loves an even number. So that leaves schools such as North Carolina, Duke, Miami and Georgia Tech on the table as potential fourth teams.

Not sure why as they seem to be far behind the curve of what would be required to be successful in the SEC.

With the PAC 12 on the way to no longer being a P5 conference I could easily see in the near future a playoff system based on the 4 P5 conferences that would allow for something like each conference guaranteeing 4 teams in for a 16-team playoff. Or at least 2 spots with opportunity for wild card spots.

Sources: In the next 24 hours, there’s two calls for the ACC to vet and have early exploratory discussions on the potential addition of Cal and Stanford. One is for ACC athletic directors and the other for the league's presidents and chancellors.

Sources: After a weekend of conversations, there’s continued momentum toward the ACC adding Stanford, Cal and SMU. ACC officials are working on gathering the presidents/chancellors on a call, which is expected to take place at some point early this week.
