I like the 9-game 3/6 SEC scheduling model, but our opinions about it don't really matter. Its main goal is greater TV and attendance revenues via all SEC matchups playing more often. Sankey wants it finalized this spring.

To facilitate equitable schedules and aligned rotations, I expect all teams' schedules to fit a consistent grid; e.g., 1 SEC rivalry, 2 rotational and 1 OOC each month (Sep, Oct, Nov), with 8 byes in week-7 and 8 in week-8. That grid also accommodates OOC rivalries (FL-FSU, GA-GT, KY-UL, SC-CU) in Nov (or Sep, Oct if desired).

Since all rotational matchups will be played twice (h/a) within every 4 years, there'll be many more competitive (and lucrative) SEC games throughout every FB season.

Sankey recently said an 8-game/no-divisions model (1 yearly rivalry, 7 rotational games) is also a viable option. Probable rivalries:

AL-AU
AR-MO
FL-GA
KY-SC
LS-TA
OM-MS
OK-TX
TN-VU

The 8-game/1-7 model's rotations are just as frequent as the 9-game/3-6 model's.

SEC FB programs vying for bowl eligibility are against a 9th intra-SEC game because it would ensure another loss for 8 SEC teams.

Regardless of whether the new scheduling model is 8 or 9 games, I want the SEC to ban FCS opponents and the CFP to disqualify teams that play them.

I think the scoop given to The Athletic a few days ago is what it's going to be. A 3-6 model with our three permanent rivals being Auburn, Tennessee, and Mississippi State. The SEC respects history and tradition and those three teams are our oldest and most-played foes.

I agree. But, I think a few yearly rivals might differ -- for better proximity and balance:

AL - AU OM TN
AR - OM MO TX
AU - AL GA MS
FL - GA LS SC
GA - AU FL SC
KY - SC TN VU
LS - FL MS TA
OM - AL AR MS
MS - AU LS OM
MO - AR OK VU
OK - MO TX TA
SC - FL GA KY
TN - AL KY VU
TX - AR OK TA
TA - LS OK TX
VU - KY MO TN

Assuming Bama's 3 rivals are AU, TN and OM, here's a guess at Bama's 2024-27 slates (w/o noting home/away; weeks 1-3 = OOC games):

2024 - weeks 1-13:
WK SF WI OM FL TA TN xx OK SC MO MS AU
2025 - weeks 1-13:
FS LM WI OM FL TA TN xx OK SC MO MS AU
2026 - weeks 1-13:
WV SF FS OM LS TX TN xx GA KY AR VU AU
2027 - weeks 1-13:
WV OS __ OM LS TX TN xx GA KY AR VU AU

NEWS | In preparation for the addition of Oklahoma and Texas beginning in 2024-25, future regular season schedule and post-season championship formats for seven @SEC sports have been approved:

Seven SEC sports future scheduling formats are approved

Baseball
* Regular season: Each season a team will play a three-game series against two permanent opponents and eight rotating opponents, for a total of 30 conference games. Standings will be kept in a single-division format.
* SEC Baseball Tournament:  Format to be determined.

Gymnastics
* Regular season: Each school sponsoring a gymnastics team will meet each other member institution at least once a year on an alternating home and away basis, consistent with the current process.  An additional week will be required to accommodate nine teams.
* SEC Gymnastics Championships: The championship will move from a one-day event to a two-day format. The semifinals will consist of two sessions of four teams each.  The top seed will receive a bye to the championship.  The top seed plus the two session winners in the semifinals and the team with the next highest score in the semifinals will advance to a four-team championship.

Swimming & Diving (Men's and Women's)
* Regular season: The Conference Office will schedule two dual meets per program and each institution is responsible for establishing the dates and times of the meets, consistent with the current process.
* SEC Swimming & Diving Championships:  Same as current format with updated facility requirements.

Indoor Track & Field (Men's and Women's)
* Regular season: Each school sponsoring an indoor track and field team will schedule teams from other Conference institutions at its own discretion, consistent with the current process.
* SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships:  The championship will move from a two-day event to a three-day format.

Volleyball
* Regular season: Format to be determined.
* SEC Volleyball Tournament:  A Conference tournament will be conducted for the first time since 2005.  All Conference teams will participate.  Still to be determined is whether the SEC Volleyball Tournament will resume following the 2024 season or following the 2025 season.

One of the two plaintiffs in the lawsuit is a women's track athlete from Auburn. She should be grateful to have received a scholarship. I doubt that the University made enough money from women's track to cover expenses.

A podcast for anyone wants to listen (45 mins)

SEC Football Unfiltered

The 2023 college football season is the last before sweeping changes in conference alignment and postseason structure. The four-team playoff will give way to 12 teams in 2024, at which time Oklahoma and Texas will be in the SEC and USC and UCLA will be in the Big Ten.

What do those changes mean for college football, on the whole?

On today's episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and Gentry Estes debate whether these changes are good, bad or otherwise for the sport.
