Per his Twitter, and thankfully it’s not COVID-related

Praying for him..He looked rough on the show with Saban this year.

He looks rough. I suspect he is battling something more serious and trying to keep it low key. I wish the best for him, he’s a hell of a journalist.

Praying for our friend, Cecil. He is one of the best writers in sports and fortunate to call him a friend.

Coach Saban’s comments today during his press conference:
"I know Cecil (Hurt) is struggling a bit right now health-wise and I just want him and his family to know our thoughts and prayers are with him. He's represented the journalistic profession in about as professional a way as anybody that I know and we certainly are hoping that he has a speedy recovery."

Really hope it's not something more serious. He's looked ill for a while. I understand not wanting people to treat you differently, but at the same time seems to me like a lot of people miss the opportunity to share their appreciation for your accomplishments and say farewell. To each their own though especially regarding how they want to go out. I hope that's not what's happening though. Get well, Cecil.

Yeah, Finebaum today read the statement and then said something to the effect of "that's all they feel comfortable with sharing."
Sadly, I suspect there's an underlying condition. Could be cancer, organ failure, some kind of autoimmune disease, or something.
One of very few respectable journalists left out there.

Definitely more going on.
Pneumonia is just a symptom of something else.
Hope he can get through this.
Sir Charles needs him.

During the “Hey Coach” show at the start of the season when Cecil was the guest journalist (and did not look well), Coach Saban said he knew he (Cecil) had been dealing with “a leg issue.” May or may not be a contributing factor to what he’s dealing with now. Love his write ups. Praying he gets through whatever this is and is able to carry on.

Damn, I hope he pulls through.
Hurt is the best. I’ve been reading his work
all of my life. He is the conscience
of Alabama athletics.

I remember seeing him on Hey Coach earlier in the season and he looked absolutely rough. He hasn't been attending the weekly press conferences either, instead choosing to Skype into the events. I could be completely off-base here, but I feel that pneumonia is a bi-product of an overarching sickness he is currently dealing with.

Yea you hate to say it out loud but combined with his appearance the last 6-8 months this doesn't feel like a one off event. More like a concluding one.
Sure hope not. As perfectly noted above, he's been the conscience of Alabama athletics for decades. There aren't any better.

Prayers that Cecil makes it through and hangs around for a long while. I have to concur looking at him on Hey Coach a while back he was unrecognizable in a bad way.

That is true with people generally, several diseases. For example, covid virus often produces pneumonia. I'm no doctor, but pneumonia is never a good sign. Glad he is now in the hospital getting good care. Prayers for Cecil to pull through.

They have said the pneumonia isn't from COVID. As others have said, he looked really rough on Hey Coach a while back. Unfortunately he probably has some sort of long term illness. I hope he pulls through.

After seeing how beyond bad he looked on Hey Coach and Byrnes comments, might need to pray for the family.

Coach Oats dedicated the opening comments of his press conference today to Cecil. Talked about getting to know him, mentioned that Cecil attended Fluff’s funeral in NC, asked for thoughts and prayers. Said ‘as he’s struggling up at UAB Hospital let’s all remember him in our prayers and hopefully we’ll see him back here in the arena and stadium covering Alabama sports again because he’s certainly missed around here.’
The remarks didn’t come across (to me) as optimistic.

Sounds even worse. If it was just the "run of the mill" pneumonia, DCH in Tuscaloosa would suffice.
Going to UAB must mean specialist care is warranted

He certainly looks like he has some other health issues that are probably compounded or contributing to his pneumonia.
