I actually feel like Wommack has done a decent job this year, the freakin offense yesterday was why we lost. We had SO. MANY. OPPORTUNITIES on offense to put the game away, defense held them to 4 FGs in the first half. It was only a matter of time before they would get gassed and the strain of having to hold the game in a manageable situation for our offense to friggin do something would collapse.

You wanna know the problem with DeBoer? It's this right here. His teams are a direct reflection of his boring, uninteresting personality. All throughout his tenure, he's fallen completely flat when his teams should come out with all the motivation in the world. It is the biggest red flag that a coach is mediocre.

This dude was saved because Michael Penix made incredible throws for his offense to sustain drives against weak Pac 12 teams. DeBoer is not even a good Xs and Os coach. His teams are fundamentally terrible.

I've said this before, we are stuck with CKD this year AND next for the simple reason Bama can't afford to buy him out AND bring in another HC/staff. IMO, the best we can hope for is Greg Byrne insist that Grubb must go.

Drones with tranquilizer darts. The other team completes one pass we hook em up.

We can't keep dialing up a 30 yard pass plays when we need 4 yards. Waiting for our receiver to get open is why he is holding the ball too long.

And the thing is - you have GOT TO KNOW (as a coach), that while every game matters - certainly games with our biggest rivals matter MORE to our fanbase. You can't have a game like that one against our biggest (or second biggest) rival and not expect fans to be livid

i read some of the first page, none of the second. but i do want to say this.

i think deboer could be a top tier sec coach. however, he needs two legit sec coordinators that can recruit both the portal and high school kids. also he could use some position coaches that can teach technique and discipline.

Cedarian Morgan and EJ's blocking cannot in any fashion of the word be that bad that it prevents them from seeing the field any more than they do.

I agree with most everything you said, but this really stuck out to me, and I couldn’t agree more. This offense needs playmakers. We have solid WRs and RBs, but EJ Is the type that can turn nothing into a 50 yard gain. We’re really not even sure what Ced Morgan can do yet. I think we’ve thrown him the ball once, and it was a TD. I mean when we are losing by 16 in the 4th quarter and we have less than 200 yards of total offense, why not throw these 2 in the game and see what happens. Can’t do any worse than what we did Saturday.

So allowing a freshman quarterback who ain’t that good to dink and dunk on us with short throws and wr screens over and over and not move up your corners to press man at any point in the game is a decent job? The players on defense played pretty good the first half, but Womack’s scheme was terrible. The Tennessee quarterback said he knew Bama was going to play soft coverage against them. Bama did exactly what they wanted us to do on defense. That’s not a decent job, that’s giving them the game. You have to make adjustments. Especially when the team is down and Tennessee is burning up clock for most of the 4th quarter.

Dude has coached six games and his decision to go for it on fourth down instead of taking the chip shot FG to go up four points with like four minutes to go almost cost them the game.

That said, he’s obviously doing something right.

Yeah, we shouldn't lose to shite Tennessee teams but in the age of NIL, it's unpreventable.

It’s not just losing but the way they lost. Dominated on both LOS. I’m not sure Tenn wouldn’t do the same if they played the game again Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

The problem is that with NIL and the portal it’s going to be impossible for teams to stack that much talent on their rosters like we used to.

Right and Bama has some talent deficiencies superfans don’t want to accept. They need an elite pass rusher, a 1 receiver, a left tackle, snd a few too notch, well roundsd DBs with speed. Not a tough but lovable guy with great hair who runs a 5 flat 40.

Spot on.

They will never be satisfied unless it’s 2016 prime Saban.

Even the 5 years of Golding get overlooked bc the offense overcame it and still won.

No one is going to go 11-1 year after year.

I’m always defending the defense bc holding opponents to 20 points should ALWAYS be enough to win a football game.

I’m not saying they are perfect but they dragged our team/Grubb to the Playoffs last season.

Like you said, they will always say we are “soft”, “played to much man.vs FSU”, “too much zone vs UT” (when you are missing Z Brown and #5 is a disaster waiting to happen).

Not one person responded to me asking them to name ONE SEC game where the defense was responsible for a loss since week 5 of 2024. That’s bc they have NEVER not even once allowed 30 points in a game and always force a couple of turnovers.

CKD really does emphasize all 3 phases of the game, and I did not think that would be true when he was hired. All I knew were his offenses had been successful.

The defense and special teams are very consistent. The roster is in GREAT shape, especially with the younger players being extremely talented.

IF IF IF he will actually part ways with Grubb and bring in someone who can field a solid offense that can put a few drives together and score 24 points consistently (think of how many times Bama scored 35-45 points to overcome the defense under CNS under Kirby and especially Golding).

I don’t feel like that’s asking too much. When you are 23-1 when scoring 21 pints or more, then you should be winning 90% of your games.

Everything is stable, and like in the OP, every coach looks to have giant warts except Cignetti but he only has 3 teams with a pulse on his schedule. The SEC is like the NFL now.

If the fans insist on getting rid of CKD, then it could turn into what it was after Bryant bc they only wanted another Bryant, and that was long before NIL and transfers.

Ty Simpson was the 13th overall pick of the NFL Draft and he couldn’t get Grubb’s offense to sustain a single drive the last 1/3 of the season and had some of the worst offensive performances ever from a Bama offense.

Only a Mike Vick circa 1998 could make Grubb’s offense “work”

I disagree.

KR played hard. The guy was running for his life, and put in impossible situations the same as Ty.

I remember rival posters on the Rant talking about Bama’s offense will fizzle when KR cannot juke out unblocked defenders and they were correct.

The defense kept the game from getting out of hand in the first 7 minutes of the game.

The gameplan was to stop Bishop and they mid-pointed the CBs several times so they could add Hubbard to the Box to help support the run, so yes you did get underneath throws, but they didn’t give up 331 on the ground like AU’s defense.

The final drive of the game had exactly 4 starters left on the field bc they defended Bishop for 14 possessions because of the offense.

Even then, they allowed 26 points including the final drive, but 9 of them were gifted to UT by our offense , that drops it to 18 points, they also setup 2 possessions at the UT 12 and 31yd line if turnovers, so now you are down to a net of 11 points for UTs offense.

UT put together 2 drives out of 14 possessions.

That’s got to be good enough for an offense to win a game. Same with Georgia game.

The fact this is downvoted 7 times more than upvoted… is beyond bizarre. Either there are LSU alts in this board, or these Bama fans enjoy losing.

It HAS to be, or I sure hope it is. If not then it’s exactly what the OP is referencing.

Bama will find itself in the wilderness again (even way worse bc you lose the entire roster now bc of NIL) if they insist on going through coaches until they find the next Saban.

How people cannot see this is beyond me.

Last week the D had to hold Georgia to 20, then hold UT to 2 TDs on 14 possessions while still creating scoring opportunities for the offense.

Who saved him last year from making it to the SECCG out of 16 teams with so much parity?

That’s with having to drag Grubb kicking and screaming all the way to the Rose Bowl.

Since you asked

quote:

We abandoned the run game.
We did that before the game started. Apparently Grubb thought he saw something he could exploit against them throwing the ball. When exactly no one this year has done well.

quote:

Our QB holds the ball too long
Some of that is on him. Some of it is plays which 4 receivers are all 20 yards or more down field running mesh routes with no check down.

quote:

Our receivers run to the same spot on the field and do not come back to their QB when he's in trouble The little mis-direction step our RBs take on EVERY running play isn't fooling anybody.
Doing what they’re coached to do.

quote:

Why the frick is our secondary playing 8 yards off of the ball on 3rd and 4?
If they don’t they get beat deep

quote:

So what's the answer?
Unfortunately it’s 2 things IMO.

1 - Patience. This is a new world since the transfer portal. Talent evaluation is so important now I fail at finding the words to adequately express it. We’re good at that, but not great. That CAN improve but only time will tell.

2 - Get rid of Grubbs and put in a bluff unimaginative OC who focuses on doing the simple things well. In hostile environments the need we currently have on blocking assignments to communicate changes is a failure. We miss blocks CONSTANTLY. I think that’s more asking too much of them in chaos than lack of talent.
