I believe he will flip few players from other schools and bring in quality transfers.

Exactly. I'll be ecstatic with a winning record and a NIT bid next season. That would be a hell of a coaching job, but I just don't think he'll be able to do that in his first season

If he gets Kira and Petty to stay (and Giddens just for big man depth) and holds together the recruiting class, then my expectations will still be a winning SEC record and an NCAA tournament bid, and I don't think that is unreasonable at all.

"Hope he can just make the NIT" is way too soft - again assuming he holds together the current team and current recruiting class for the most part.

How would that be a hell of a job? That's exactly what Avery did. We paid over 10 million to do better. It's tourney or bust

By the way, that 1:00 PC is going to destroy your wishes here. People are going to love his attitude. There might be a few gumps that don't like his accent or something, but I'll bet most folks are going to be all in a couple of hours from now.

Oh yea - he's about to rip the shite out of this presser. His attitude and demeanor are infectious.

Hell, if he a winning record and gets to the Dance in year 1 in this league, he’s a savant. This is grown arse man basketball in the SEC now. We’ve got some work to do. I’ll be happy with .500 or better and consider it a good year.

Depending on how the next 6 months play out, we could be a complete disaster or we could be a scrappy .500 ball club. He gets a free pass from me this year, I’m just cautiously optimistic.

Avery was doing that in his fourth season. Oats has to come in and establish his way of doing things. It's not going to magically happen in one season.

Seriously - guess we should have fired Saban after year 1

How can anyone expect him to go to the tournament next season? My gosh, I don't understand

Some people seriously think basketball is just showing up, walking through something once and everyone is good to go.

As if running sets and making quick decisions based on reads isn't every bit as complicated as doing it in football.

Where would Buffalo have finished in the SEC this year?

I don’t think anyone should expect him to go to the Tournament, but depending on what we return, it’s not out of the question. If we return Petty and Kira (Big “if”, I know) and no one else transfers (including our recruits) getting to the NIT would be my expecation simply because we’ll be transitioning to a different play style and learning a new offense. I think we’d have the talent to be a tournament team though depending on how quickly our guys pick it up.

Hmmmm - hard to tell but if you just use KenPom rankings

7. Kentucky
10. Tennessee
13. Auburn
19. LSU
20. Mississippi State
21. Buffalo
25. Florida
51. Ole Miss
55. Arkansas
65. Alabama
69. Missouri
70. South Carolina
93. Texas A&M
133. Georgia
155. Vanderbilt

So, depending on conference schedule, somewhere around 11-7 or 10-8 in conference, probably about the same seed in the NCAAT.

I 100% agree with you, but a zebra can't change it's stripes, and what you described above is about 50% of what goes on on this board. Nothing is going to change in this regard.

I hope so - I do think we have to understand that we are going to be completely changing the way we play the game. Our offensive strategy is going to be a total overhaul from everything most of these kids have done in college.

It could take some time for them to get comfortable and play fast in that system. It'd be great if it clicked quickly, but it could take a full season.

Well, I will have to hand it to you that I don't know basketball as well as I do, say, baseball.

I would like to see us have that small college crisp fundamentals thing going. You know, turn arounds and curl jumpers from the free-throw line. Solid rotations and passes to open three point shooters. Not getting too jacked up because we hit a three pointer... just play and expect to make those shots.

I'd also like to play defense better. In short, I'd like for us to stop looking like a pick-up game, and more like a team with a plan and an identity. We need discipline.

Totally agree - I'm more looking forward to just watching a team that competes, gets after it and plays the right way than anything else.
