A new arena will come at some point.

I know a location has been proposed, but I think UA and Tuscaloosa should consider the University Mall as a location. I believe that location has a 40-year lease with 5 or less years remaining. The property is owned by the State of AL Mental Health Board, so it is state owned. The mall is dying, the infrastructure is there such as roads and utilities, and it is a prime location. A multipurpose arena that could host games, shows, and concerts as you leave the interstate and head towards campus could provide many benefits. Additionally, Midtown Village and The Shoppes at Legacy Park are within walking distance. Many places on 15th are close.

They've been talking about building one for most of my 40 or so years. They are going to let that thing fall down first.

I assume one major issue is that many coaches’ offices are all in Coleman. All coaches’ offices, other than football, are in Coleman. Plus, there is a sort of command center at the bottom that houses a lot of vital communications equipment. I know that when the April 2011 tornado happened, that served as a communications hub and safe space from the weather. All that said, they could build a new arena elsewhere, tear down Coleman and use that space for a new building that supports the coaches’ offices and communications hub. It is not as if UA is short on money. They are constantly refacing buildings, renovating, changing the campus infrastructure.

Build US a nice basketball arena. We've been around longer than Nate.

I was thinking the gymnastics team and their half dozen natties were more deserving than a few sweet 16s... but the fans probably deserve it more than them.

The plan is to build the arena near US-82 close to Campus Avenue at the edge of the Old Bryce Campus.

Coleman is going nowhere; will continue to host UA Athletics and be used in its administrative and event hosting capacity.

My guess is men's and women's basketball will move to the new arena. Volleyball will get to claim Foster Auditorium completely. At some point they will renovate Coleman Coliseum to better suit whatever is needed for other indoor sports not hosted at the Aquatic Center. They could certainly do to improve the sight lines for watching all four events at a gymnastics meet.

Pretty sure Oats said NIL has priority over a new building. Plus he has also said everything the players see and use is very nice.

And, the "blue hairs" those would be the ones you are asking to pay for the thing, and then you want to kick them to the street? That aint the way it works.

Coming up with the money goes two ways:

You canvas the monied donor class to build it and they expect best seats in the house they built. The man of the house gets the lazyboy. That’s how it goes.

You seek out corporate sponsorship and they ask for some alienating naming rights that cheapens the prestige of the UA brand by having to stoop so low as to ask for corporatist dollars. Plus, they may want rights to host things or have special corporate seating arrangements themselves.

I also think fans value a new arena more than Nate does.

So is that why he brings it up almost every time he does a local interview?

Alabama will get a new arena when we've got Final Four and National Title banners...the money will flow in then...if not from private donors, certainly from corporate.

I know just the company to hit up. We'll call it Quaker Oats Arena. Problem solved.

Does he bring it up, or is he being asked about it? Because every time I've seen him answer the question, he says it's a fan thing, and they have elite facilities and he'd rather have more NIL contributions.

That's the problem though. If this gets done, it is going to involve primo real estate getting handed to corporate and individual donors that will not show up to middling games and never be a huge impact on the atmosphere the opponent must enjoy.

Do it with suites / club level and maybe the front row and that’s it.

The scuttlebutt going around is they’ve hit the 1.5B goal for rising tide and they’re far exceeding the fundraising drive expectations so far

LINK .

He’ll have a new arena, the only question is when

The money and location for the arena are already in place, and has been.
The real hold up that isn't getting talked about is women's basketball. specifically their coach.
