21:12 is damning. Just damning. It should cost Wommack his job.
Neither Bill Curry nor Dennis Franchione, two reviled names in the history of our program, would in a million years have put a unit of their football team out on the field this clueless and unprepared and unmotivated.

We rotated so frequently in the game that it's impossible that all those players got an adequate number of quality reps in practice.
I really think this is contributing to the poor play, a defensive unit needs to gel and trust that each player is gonna be where they’re supposed to be.
The excessive substituting of young players in and out has to affect that negatively, it showed up in the game with guys running to the same gaps, etc. That’s on Womack. A good breakdown film of the chaos we all saw Sat.

The more I see, the more I just feel bad for the defensive players. They have to be frustrated by how poorly they are prepared.
Wommack is abysmally inept.

If Deboer doesn't fire Wommack then that proves he should not be a head at Bama and that he is incompetent.

Yep. Bottom line, Wommack is out of his depth. Between Qua Russaw saying today that the defense was confused, to Brooks Austin breaking down the film and showing us all the players were visibly confused, it is very clear at this point that Wommack’s ability to coach and call a defense at a high level is entirely inadequate. This is the third or fourth time that eye candy, option based offenses and ground games have had their way with our guys on defense.

I remember people saying the same thing about Saban not firing Golding
How many people would kill for Golding to be the DC right now?

After watching 2/3 I had to turn it off. The lack of basic preparation is appalling. What did these guys do all camp?
Imagine what paid college coordinators are going to do to us.

Scheme aside these players are just pussies.
They played soft because they been put in bad positions.
You can't play full speed when you set up to fail and are trying to process instead of playing fast
The worst part about this is Wommack said his scheme was right in the press conference.

There's plenty of blame to go around, but on some of those plays the players put themselves in bad positions. There's no way they're being coached to give up outside leverage and allow the ball carrier to get to the sideline or for multiple players to crash on the same guy in read-option.

Womack is rapidly advancing his career to be the ole ball coach at some high school.

Cover 3 or variant with little adjustment all day.
Something like 65% of NFL defensive snaps last year were cover 3 with 2 high safeties.
But
We are playing college offense, not modern NFL offenses. Cover 3 is not how you deal with the veer, or the HUNH that throws downhill run out of constant misdirection.

Just want to say what a fantastic job he did breaking down the film.
I made a thread a day ago about how the main problem is the DC and how we need to get someone as an analyst to be our Ghost-DC for gameplan and adjustments.... and boy do I feel vindicated.
We have players. We have tremendous talent. We are just set up to fail by a guy 100x worse than Golding.
This is all on KDB as I have said before. If he didn't choose a cowards way and hired an SEC experienced DC and not his buddy we would have made the playoffs last season and won last weekend.. even with flour QB and OL play

Correct. We were playing a fricking Gus offense.
Inexcusable

Oh I agree. The leverage thing is absolutely crazy. I wasn't a defensive player and even I know if there was an interception the first thing you do is press outside to force the returner inside to your help.
When Hubbard isn't doing that and has no effort? Man that is coaching.
What I mean by that is these guys should be getting enough reps to where it's muscle memory and they don't have to think it.
Posted on 9/2/25 at 3:13 pm to Goforit
Brown was the only guy on defense that was doing his job. Hubbard was atrocious. He gave terrible effort and couldn't tackle. Lawson was slow, unsure, and scared. Jefferson had no idea what he was doing. Red Morgan was lost several times.
The D line routinely had 2 guys in one gap.
That was really bad. The guys are so bad they don't even know how bad they are. In years past you'd have experienced guys making sure everyone knew what they were supposed to do. These guys must not know how clueless Wommack is.

A lot is correctable. The depressing part was it looked like they were so unprepared.

Hubbard was atrocious
Total disaster. He whiffed on two TD runs & the TO we wasted in the forst half was on him bc he was the single high safety & had no idea what to do.
