100% agree, and if DeBoer would have simply paid the debt by giving Milroe the first shot at the job, but benched him when it was clear he was killing us then the fanbase could go into next year still optimistic about DeBoer.

I think if you asked him privately, he regrets it and wont do anything like it again

If Russell is the best quarterback he should start. Period. If you do that you absolutely risk rookie mistakes. But if he’s as good as advertised the hope would be that he will learn from and not repeat those mistakes. Unlike our most recent starting QB.

My question would be when did this source learn this purported information. Recently or a while back? And if it was a while back, why did he sit on it until now?

This may be gospel truth. He may also, like 90% of the posters here, and I absolutely raise my hand and say “Guilty as charged,” be throwing s**t against the wall trying to find a singular answer to something that might have umpteen different layers.

Unless Kalen DeBoer, Nick Saban, Greg Byrne and Jalen Milroe are placed on the witness stand and questioned in a courtroom, at risk of perjury, we’ll probably never get a definitive answer.

It’s amazing how divisive of a player #4 is. I have never seen a player cause as much uproar as him. People have been fighting all year because of him. The sooner he moves on via the NFL or transfer the better we will be.

You do realize that it's possible that in 2023 he wasn't better and didn't start because he wasn't better and in 2024 he was better and didn't start because there was a coaching change and DeBoer maybe values things like loyalty, experience, and seniority even more than Saban and Dabo, or maybe he didn't want one of his first acts after replacing the GOAT to be benching the returning starter who is popular with the team he just inherited, or maybe he is simply too much of a pussy to fire people. That may all be wrong, but those are 3 pretty straightforward explanations that aren't unrealistic and don't involve any conspiracies about the inmates running the asylum.

We should find out the answer to one of possible explanations you threw out before the spring season.

I completely agree with all of this and my hope like many here was Ty would take the job.

My only disagreement is if he was developed well and is good enough to start with Milroe why wouldn't he still be good enough to start when Milroe is gone by spring?

Womp womp. Milroe sucks. DeBoer was a pussy to never even try another option.

Would you call Saban a pussy as well? Because he did the same thing.

To be fair, he tried another option and it went worse so they ended up back with Milroe.

Because one of the other two is better. There's a lot of room between being better than Milroe and actually playing the position well. Ty could be better than Milroe without actually being good.

I get giving Milroe every opportunity to succeed and standing behind him for as long as possible. But there comes a time when lack of effort or lack of ability or both overrides loyalty and you have to do what’s best for the program as a whole and the team as a whole, not one player. I look at the first half of that Georgia game this year and think to myself that if he can get that kind of production against one of the best defenses in the nation for a half, why can’t he do it again? The only answers I can come up with is he either can’t or he won’t and in either case he needs to be benched

IF TRUE, that's disheartening... CKD needs to grow some balls or call a uhaul... Cause that won't equate to a winning program.

Saban tried another option. Milroe also didn’t crater like he has in the last few games.

I really am hoping that is all it is to it. And if so, I can understand. I can’t even image how this season would have turned out if more had transferred. This is a new age in college football with coaching changes, teams are going to poach. Heck they are poaching without coaching changes.

Nick Saban and Tommy Rees deserve a lot more respect for their bad offense with Milroe. It was bad but it was not outright self-destructive. The bad snaps were drive killers but they didn't put points on the board for the opponent. They found a way to be a bad offense that was minimally viable for winning football at the top levels of the sport.

For all the talk of adapting their offense to the talent in the preseason. I didn't feel like I saw all that much of that besides the greater use of QB runs to essentially accomplish the same things they would do with tailbacks at UDub. They did not pare this offense down enough for Milroe. He was asked to do too much and he failed.

He's a playmaker you have to micromanage. They didn't understand the assignment.

I think you are on target.

But there are people here who act like we were some kind of offensive juggernaut in 2023.

For the umpteenth time, Saban, Rees and all concerned pulled that season out of their asses with some help from blind luck. We were not in any shape, form or fashion one of the four best college football teams in 2023 but they got us to the playoffs with a fighting chance to get to the title game.

The problem as I see it was that nobody was thinking about tomorrow and that became especially acute when Saban went to the house and a chunk of the roster went somewhere else.

I think I'll be more pissed...you waste a season because you wouldn't change a qb? Because of his feelings or your guarantee that he would be the starter?
