Definitely a term normally associated with people 60+, but I figure he's headed there. God bless him, he seems to like it. I can't figure why anyone would want to be a governor or even a Congressman.

Calling Maddox a career politician is hilarious to me. He ran on change and being full of youthful ideas in 2005.

No political experience before being elected to the City Council in 2001 at age 27.

Cap, this kid couldn't have picked Walt Maddux out of a lineup 4 weeks ago. Hell, he might not even be able to today.

19 years is making a career out of it. I think the term "career politician" counts for someone who has been at it for almost 2 decades.

I meant more in the context that Maddox was essentially the change for the future when he became in mayor in 2005. It’s quite the turnabout to see it used on him 15 years later.

Right on then. It is interesting to see how the turntables.

I mean Walt is reasonable for the most part, but he's been in politics for 20 years now out of what, 25 possible professional working years? Pretty much been his whole career.

To be fair, 4 of those years he was a city councilor which isn't a full time position.

I don't live in Tuscaloosa so don't really have a strong opinion on whether it's time for him to pass the torch. I did grow up close to Walt and knew him and his family growing up though, so I probably do have some bias towards him.

He's had a 24 year career. 19 of them were in elected office. And the other 4 were working for the AEA.

That is the DEFINITION of a career politician. He has literally never held a job that wasn't either a government job, or with a lobbying state employee union.

Also, in Pearson's defense, Maddox won his first public election before the kid was even born.

I wouldn't want to be one, I wouldn't mind being king though.

It's honestly pretty sad that some 18/19 year old kid has already made the conscious decision to build a career out of taking advantage of the poor and uneducated. I mean how fricked up must his childhood have been.

Video of the kid at 12 years old

Seems like he's been consistent his entire life.

Clearly I didn’t explain this well enough in the first post. But I’ve explained it twice since.

Businesses are gonna be even more devastated if football season gets cancelled because college students don’t wanna follow a simple rule of wearing a mask

I have kids there right now, a junior and a freshman and let me tell you, most the kids are wearing masks and doing what they are supposed to do.

The problem is that masks are not 100%, fact! Everyone knew that when the students returned that there would be an increase in infections and guess what, there were.

But here are the numbers that we received as parents:

531 infected students, staff, and faculty. And even though the press wants to say this all happened in 1 week, it did not!
My daughter went thru Rush, so like her over 4,000 students arrived on campus on 8/6.
Staff and faculty have been on campus, some all summer.
The rest of the students arrive on 8/12.

So at this time, Monday 8/24, when these numbers were release, 1.4% of of all these people had tested positive, but NONE of them were admitted to DCH!

Everyone needs to calm the heck down.

while that may be true the UA system hasn't updated their site since it went online. Who knows what the real #'s are now? A virus site without updates is worthless.

The 531 total infections were as of 8/24, just 3 days ago.

I mean unless there has been a massive uptick in cases in the last 3 days, I don't see these numbers being that far off. They also reflect the numbers put out by DCH.

i have a question that as of right now no one has been able to answer.

you get tested for c-19, you test positive. does that mean you HAVE c-19 RIGHT NOW? Or, does it mean you've HAD c-19 at some point in the last 6 or 8 months?

on the bobby bones radio show, one of his in studio guys went on vacation to florida. was tested for c-19 as soon as he returned home, tested positive. he has been tested once a week every week since. four straight weeks he has tested positive. his dr's tell him he is perfectly fine to return to work and that he will continue to test positive for many months.

said all that to ask this. with all these students coming back on campus. there most assuredly will be an uptick in positive tests. however, can anyone tell me if these positive tests are actually active c-19 tests, or just remnants of a virus gone by with no danger left to anybody?

From my understanding, the Covid-10 tests test for presence of the virus at that point in time. The antibody tests can detect if there are antibodies for it in your system which would indicate you have already had it, but some of those tests aren't very reliable.

I don't think this is right. Everyone I know that has had it tested negative for it a week or two after their initial positive test.

Spleen is right.

The antibody test tells if you had it and got over it. The regular tickle your sphincter by going through your nostril test looks for the presence of the actual virus.

As far as returning to work, for healthcare providers the CDC says it has to have been at least 10 days since symptom onset and you have to have been fever free without the use of fever reducing medication for 24 hours.

I’ve got no idea how you reconcile those guidelines with someone who is asymptomatic but is still testing positive after an extended period of time.

I talked to a councilman about this last week and they are getting concerned too. Another two weeks of bars being closed, the prospect of only maybe 100K visitors total for 5 games (if they happen), hotels and restaurants going bankrupt. Recommendations on distancing necessary, but isolating at-risk groups would have made more sense than prohibiting healthy demographics from enjoying their lives. Stupid, and we all know why we've had this overreaction.

I wish the guy well; of course, we here in Tuscaloosa are stuck with the Mayor for Life.
