Perhaps his plan all along was to return for drills and then hit the portal. He knew the talent of rb's on the roster already.
Then maybe not

They've been seeing how he could fill two roles like we've seen in a few other positions; here it's slot and running back. It takes reps to excel at one position, much less two: keeping in shape over a year doesn't equate to football shape.
He sits out a year. People are moving past him on the depth chart. Why? Would reps have anything to do with it?
Good luck to K-Rob. I understand he's contacted a few schools including Auburn. He finds himself in the situation he is today-in Bama terms-due to the decisions he's made.

Why is it so difficult for us to get an evening game at home in September? It seems like Auburn and LSU get night home games early in the year all the time

We are going to miss Najee. I think he could arguable be the best RB we ever had. He did what he did with an Offense that had the best WRs we’ve ever had during his tenure. He’s going to show his worth with the Steelers.

I wouyhsye to see Robinson transfer to Auburn or LSU but either place might be a good choice for him
How the hell does apple autocorrect would hate for wouyhsye and what does that even mean?

Henry did more against a stacked box and with a UDFA at qb.

Christian Harris got there 1/3 of the time he blitzed. Imagine that shite.

Najee was great, and he improved markedly in his senior season, but I don't even think he's in the top five of our greatest backs ever.
Just in recent memory, you've got Derrick Henry and Mark Ingram, two Heisman winners. Eddie Lacy. Trent Richardson. Josh Jacobs. If you go back a little further, you've got Shaun Alexander, who is probably the best overall. Bobby Humphrey. Johnny Musso. Tony Nathan. Wilbur Jackson, who (if memory serves) was never tackled for a loss.
Najee worked his butt off, and he's very talented, but something about his running style just didn't seem to mesh. He was a 230-pound back who early in his career tried to run like a scatback. He got much, much better at just putting his head down and powering forward, especially this last year ... but he's not anywhere close to the best RB we've ever had, in my opinion.

Johnny Davis. Played full back in the wishbone was never tackle for a loss.
Davis was a member of the 1981 San Francisco 49ers team that won Super Bowl XVI. He is a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama, and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

and he was an elite piano player as well

Najee is a better receiver than all most all of those backs
you listed. He ran, blocked and caught the ball very well.
Henry was such a home run threat, you would probably have to
put him at the top, or near it.

In the “tear away” Jersey era I remember Johnny Davis running through the line into the end zone with nothing visible but shoulder pads

Johnny Davis was tackled for a loss- Once. I am certain of that, I saw that game. Can’t remember which team it was against.

I believe the tear away jersey was done before Big Johnny got to Bama.
I believe you're speaking of Steve Bisceglia. 1971-1972
I believe that game was vs UT in Kville.
Musso in the 71 game was running with little to nothing as well vs the Barn.

I don't remember the specific game either, but it was late in his senior year.

I had several classes with the Italian Stallion. He had girls hanging all over him and did most of his work. LOL

The tear aways were definitely there when Johnny Davis played
Posted on 6/2/21 at 10:18 pm to BamalaAnderson
NFL banned tear aways in 1979, college in 1982

Not sure you can really say Najee was a better receiver. The game has changed, even in the past 8-10 years, to place more emphasis on passing vs. rushing.
Najee definitely caught more passes than anyone else on the list, but a big function of that (in my opinion) is him staying four years. Many of the others were only here three.
The most accurate comparison would be Shaun Alexander, who was an outstanding receiver out of the backfield -- especially his last two seasons. He had 62 receptions in his career (18 fewer than Najee), but had 798 receiving yards compared to Najee's 781.
