Metchie is good, but I doubt he would meet that expectations... That's rat poison. He just need to be himself and do his job and rest will be taken care for him.

Better than Smith and Waddle? Idk man. I love Metchie, but that's a mouthful - honestly kinda ridiculous. Based on what?
At most I'd say Metchie is as good as those guys, and even that remains to be seen.

I agree with this, and that's not an insult to Metchie at all.

Henry Ruggs - 12th overall pick
Jerry Jeudy - 15th overall pick, Biletnikoff winner
Jalen Waddle - 6th overall pick
DeVonta Smith - 10th overall pick, Heisman and every other award a WR can win.

"Better than" all of these and you're talking Jerry Rice territory.

I could be way off but I'd be shocked if Metchie was a Top 20 or 30 pick.

2nd-3rd round? Sure. Top 15? I'd be shocked. But I'm wrong a lot so that is totally possible .

I mean, I'd honestly just like to hear the long-form breakdown of this statement, because that is quite a claim.

quote:

"Alabama has another great wide receiver, John Metchie III," Miller said on ESPN's College Football Podcast. "I’ve talked to scouts already who say, ‘put it down, he’s better than Jaylen Waddle and he’s better than DeVonta Smith.’"

Yea I wonder if they talked about it in any detail - I'll have to look.

Sign me up for Metchie being better than any of the other guys though

Can confirm. Metchie is better at tackling than those other WRs.

I didn't flinch at the headline due to a key word:
quote:

Scouts: John Metchie could be better than recent Alabama stars (247)

Could = might, maybe, possibly. But Miller did say some scouts told him Metchie's better than Waddle and Smitty, which is over the top, imo.

Yea, I just would like to know what part of Metchie's game they see as having a ceiling higher than Waddle or DeVonta.

I'm really not concerned about our WR room. It'll be loaded with talent. If our OL can take care of business, our offense should be prolific.

Metchie was great from the first game but had some big drops late in the year against Florida and Notre Dame but that may have been due to his ankle injury.

metchie just needs to be metchie, when hes healthy he can do alot of things for us, hes got the speed to take the top off a d, hes good after the catch, and hes a pretty dependable receiver.

I kinda expect him to be a first round pick if he stays healthy. But I’m wrong a lot too (why I don’t actually bet $).

A lot may depend on Young.

I'm really interested to see how the running backs are used in the passing game. Najee was so good as a receiver. It appears to me that there are multiple backs who could be big play threats as receivers. Trey Sanders is a wild card. If he's healthy I believe that he's going to be a part of this offense. McClellan, Williams, K Rob and Wheaton can all be big play guys if we get them the ball.

Yeah, we have plenty of good playmakers at RB, TE & WR and plenty of ways to use them. Our QB should be real good too. Hopefully the OL will be a strength as well.
