What the hell was Nebraska thinking? What about West Virginia? At least WVU can say they were kinda hung out there with no good landing spot. Nebraska just shot themselves in the foot and kept pulling the trigger. The Big 8 was great when it existed, it was just too top heavy. Nebraska and Oklahoma dominated it. Colorado was the only one that occasionally challenged them. If they could have gotten Iowa State or the Kansas schools competitive, they could have absorbed the SWC instead of vice-versa and would have been better off. In that scenario, Texas is at best, an equal partner to Nebraska, OU, and A&M. Their influence is toned way down and the conference probably becomes much more viable. Instead, Longhorn arrogance doomed the original Big XII from the start.

Same with Nebraska. They are totally irrelevant now. They're a Big 12 program with natural rivalries with Oklahoma, Kansas State, Texas, etc. Missouri should have joined the Big Ten instead.
Nebraska, Colorado, Mizzou and the rest of the BigXII should've told Texas there'll be equal revenue sharing or else we'll form a new conference without you and won't schedule any games with you.

Unfortunately it is all about TV revenue and markets and academic prestige. Nebraska is part of a conference that touches all midwest markets and 3 major east coast markets along with being associated with better research institutions. The tv money and prestige outweighs the student and alumni experience and camaraderie. To be fair students and alumni benefit from this professionally but they also lose some of the connection from shared experiences that is one of the great benefits of attending schools like those, imo.
West Virginia will always struggle as it offers nothing for TV markets in Morgantown and very little with research or academic prestige.

I think you're underselling North Carolina. That's a very good job that's a better job now than the first time Mack Brown was the coach there. UNC has money and geographically it's in a better spot than Clemson for recruiting. Mack is bringing in a better class than I thought possible at this stage. I think UNC is the clear cut choice for the most likely threat to Clemson in the ACC.

I say UNC is a better job now than when Mack was there before because the state and region is growing and I have to think the pool of athletes to recruit from is better from Atlanta to the Tidewater region.

Texas is so greedy. They have every resource imaginable to be dominant but have been stuck in mediocrity since they ran off Mack Brown.

I think you're underestimating how good a program needs to be to consistently beat Clemson. Even Mack Brown turning UNC into a top 25 team that wins 8-9 games a year ain't gonna do it.

I think it's possible for UNC to recruit well enough to consistently beat the other ACC teams and maybe beat Clemson 25% (1 out of 4). There's enough talent in NC, SC, the DMV area, WV, VA region for UNC to recruit top 10 classes. UNC's 2021 class is #5 right now with 10 4* and 5 3* commits (91.2 avg. player rating); Drake Maye, their QB commit, is excellent.

Just a little quick interview with Slade before he went back to Tuscaloosa. Thought y'all might want to see it.
