Lengthy write up but worth perusing for anyone interested in the current discrepancy between SEC programs. From WVUA

WONDER WHY ALABAMA IS NOT A BASEBALL SCHOOL? SCHOLARSHIPS ARE PART OF THE REASON

A problem not mentioned is Title IX. Only way baseball expands to 27 scholarships would be to add more female sports. EVERYTHING must be equal! (Eye roll

Title IX

They could make (at least) some of it with expanding softball scholarships - it’s also an “equivalency sport.” Not sure if gymnastics or soccer could make up the rest.

(admittedly all conjecture on my part - I think the upcoming settlement may have dire consequences for the non revenue sports).

Under NCAA rules, a Division 1 baseball team’s 11.7 scholarships can be divided between a maximum of 27 players on a 39-player roster, with all players on athletic scholarship having to receive a minimum of a 25 percent scholarship. That leaves room for eight walk-ons

NCAA

Every school is limited to 11.7

I’ll let him know, but my husband’s work will not help our pitchers, hitters or coaches ;-)

As far as regionals, I must be reading in the wrong places bc I’m not seeing us listed as the first 4 out. One still has us as a 2 seed after our game on Tuesday? The last time a team with a top 20 RPI was left out was in 2016, and the team had 19 RPI. We are still at an 18 unless it’s changed today? I haven’t been on social media much today, so I very well could’ve missed something.

We should be in unless there are a lot of upsets in tournaments around the country . However , we went from a solid #2/outside shot at hosting , and played our way to a #3 it looks like

Since Football players are being paid, they ought to be taken off of the Scholarship numbers, just pay each an extra dollar amount that covers tuition, then they have to "pay for their own tuition" wink wink. That solves that, or all the football players can claim to be named Susan, or Tamika

P.S. The point is football scholarships create the imbalance overall.

On one site we are paired with #7 Oklahoma, so that means overall we are around the 7th best three seed, they can move you up and down a wee bit to dodge other conference members at times, but lets say they see us as between the 6th to 8th best 3rd seed in the regionals overall, that means we are not close to being left out, but also that we will never be a 2 seed, imho. The one I looked at had us in with OU, Nebraska and some other 4 seed.

I would take that over going to Clemson tvh.

The whole scholarship thing at Bama drives me crazy. I get it that the lottery thing hurts but the idea that UA can’t waive out of state tuition is BS. Other schools do it.

My guess is the athletic department has “always done it that way” and possibly fathom that maybe times have changed and they need to adjust.

Feel like Miss State got shafted by not hosting. All but UGA should be top 8 seeds.
