Good for Chase. Wish he was back in Crimson next year, but glad for the fellow McAdory alumni made it to the bigs. He has had an interesting journey to be sure.

Good news for Alabama Baseball! This signing should probably put to rest any chance of Toronto signing Luke Holman.

5th-rder Irv Carter signs w/@BlueJays for $850k (slot 152 value = $350,300). Thinking that will be their 2nd-highest bonus. Florida HS RHP, projectable 6-ft-4, already up to 94 mph with more to come, promising slider. Miami recruit. @MLBDraft

That deal just doesn't make sense. Come back to Alabama and try to improve your stock. $75,000 is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

edit: I'm guessing he can't come back after declaring? I thought baseball was different from football in that regard?

He wouldn't improve his stock. He is what he is. He'd be as much or more of a senior sign next year in terms of amount under slot. He's already 22 years old. Not to mention if he comes back and has an arm injury he's out of baseball.

If he wants to have a legitimate chance at reaching the major leagues this was the time for him to roll the dice.

Didn't realize he was already 22 so I'm sure you're right. But man, $75,000 for a 6th round pick is garbage. That MiLB life is going to be tough.

Yea no doubt - you put yourself at the mercy of the MLB clubs when they know you basically have to come out. That's the downside of the slot system.

He agreed to that deal as a condition of the Rangers drafting him there. Guaranteed. Otherwise he probably falls well down the draft.

Well that's a bummer, though I understand it. He probably wasn't going to be able to improve his stock enough to get much more money next year, but it would have been nice to pencil him in for one of the weekend starter spots.

Now, I guess we'll see what we have with all these talented, but inexperienced young pitchers. We won't have any pitchers with any real SEC starting experience going into next year outside of Antoine Jean and Jacob McNairy with a couple starts a piece. I'm sure there'll be plenty of growing pains, but it'll only serve us that much better for the future. Excited for the season!

He was a junior though wasn't he? Seniors have zero negotiation leverage so he'd have ended up being signed way underslot even if he moved up a few rounds.

Congratulations to Alabama's @owendiodati on his selection to the Cape Cod League's Western Division All-Star squad. Owen currently leads the league in homers (7) and ranks tied for first in RBI (20). Unfortunately, the All-Star Game will not be played this season.

Dio is having a solid summer at the Cape. Really hope that translates for him.

His K/BB numbers are still pretty concerning, though.

93 ABs
25 Ks
5 BBs

269 AVG
300 OBP
838 OPS
