Wilson grad Luke Holman was selected by Toronto in the 20th round (#602) but as I reported yesterday, Holman is committed to Alabama.
The 6-4 righty struck out 117 in 57 innings this year (9-1, 0.85ERA).
He allowed 23 hits. Holman helped @Wilson_Bulldogs win 2 District titles

HOLMAN DRAFTED, LIKELY TO ATTEND ALABAMA
For a kid without social media, this is about as in-depth of reporting on this stuff you’ll get day-by-day as a kid walks through this process.
Looks like he’s planning to attend Alabama unless the Blue Jays have trouble signing one of their top 3-4 round guys and have extra money on the table. Excited to have him here barring something crazy with the Blue Jays other too guys!

After beating cancer, Holman has high hopes
quote:
Holman has already overcome a great deal to reach this point in his career at just 18 years old. When he was younger, Holman beat large cell lymphoma. He underwent chemotherapy for a year, and after recovering, dedicated himself to building his body back up. He has become one of the best young prospects in his area and the star of his high school team.
quote:
The Blue Jays’ negotiations with their top drafted players will need to play out before any possible deal with Holman is considered, and while it’s likelier he suits up for Alabama this coming season and enjoys a nice NCAA career before re-entering the Draft down the road, his talent and story are well worth acknowledging this year.

Just saw that CJ Abrams is the #8 prospect in MLB. Would've been nice to get him on campus.

Yea he blew up. He had a pretty rough injury that ended his season this year.

So true. It’s times like these that the basketball format doesn’t seem so bad, even if you just got to witness that type of greatness for even just a year in college.
I’m worried now that Walter Ford is playing so well in the 2023 class that he’s bound to end up with the same fate, even with him being a huge Alabama fan. Our pitching recruiting looks to be killing it for years to come, but we can use all the bats we can get, especially with the draft potentially going to steal some in the upcoming years.

Ford from what I can gather wants to go pro.
Last year as a sophomore he lived 91-93 on the mound. He’s run it up to 96-97 this summer. If he is sitting 94-95 as a senior I’d have to believe he will be drafted pretty highly.

Detroit Tigers: Dylan Smith is better than he looks on paper
The Detroit Tigers selected a starting pitcher with the 74th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. They opted to go with Dylan Smith, a right-handed pitcher from the University of Alabama of the SEC conference.

'The Viper': Lee's unusual path to MLB Draft
When Chase Lee first stepped on the University of Alabama’s campus, the goal was simply to graduate. Baseball wasn’t in the equation. Lee didn’t have any offers out of high school, and the Crimson Tide wasn’t exactly looking for his services.
That was then. That was before the failed tryout, before the new pitching delivery, before the perfect timing and before the fun nickname. Lee was selected by the Rangers in the sixth round with the No. 164 overall pick on Tuesday in the MLB Draft.

With the dust somewhat settling on transfers, draft losses, and recruiting class, what are some of y'all's thoughts on the starting line-up for next year?
*This is also assuming that Ras is gone, Guffey isn't taking a 5th year, and Holman still makes it to school* If those change, then this would change. OR if we pick up a big transfer before the year starts.
Fri. Starter: Antoine Jean
Sat. Starter: Luke Holman (HS)
Sun. Starter: Grayson Hitt
Mid-week Starter: Ben Hess (HS)
Relief (1): Jacob McNairy
Relief (2): Brandon Clarke (HS)
Relief (3): Hunter/David Furtado (prev. 1YR @ Wake Forest)
Relief (4): Dylan Ray
Relief (5): Trace Moore (JUCO)
Closer: Landon Green *If he can work on his control enough for next year*
C: Graham Crawford (JUCO) OR Dominic Tamez (JUCO and 1YR @ Arkansas) *Depends on if Tamez's bat is far enough ahead of Crawford to make up for worse fielding*
1B: Drew Williamson
2B: Jim Jarvis
SS: Bryce Eblin
3B: Zane Denton
LF: William Hamiter
CF: Caden Rose OR Andrew Pinckney
RF: Camden Hayslip (HS)
DH: Owen Diodati
Obviously a lot of these pitching spots are simply guesses, but I thought I'd give it a whirl. I think either way the pitching depth is in great hands for years to come and the fielding potential of this team would be solid, but I wonder if we would still would be a step behind in our run producing running out this line-up. To me, it would depend on Diodati and Williamson performing to their potential in the power and hitting department and Rose and Jarvis hitting for average and getting on base enough to not be a liability in that regard.
What are y'all's takes?
