But the difference was, That 2000 team was undisciplined, weak, and coached by guys who the players didn’t respect.
Serious question: do you think the players on this team respect the head coach? If the *rumors* about locker room dissention and whatnot are accurate, it's a poor reflection on the head coach.
By the way, there's a BIG difference between liking someone and respecting them. Lots of players in various sports have "hated" their coach and probably called them A-holes, but they also RESPECTED them for their toughness, consistency etc.
Time will tell on this. Right now I am on the fence.

Our defense also played a dog shite offense whose QB couldn't hit wide open targets.

Seeing as how these are persistent issues from the last three seasons, does that mean they didn't respect Saban either?

Exactly. What would the scores against USF, South Carolina and UT have been had they had accurate QBs?

We had zero business being ranked No. 1. Worst thing that could have happened to us, magnifies these issues.

Kind of like the 2024 team?

Rest of the season is going to go 1 of 2 ways. They are either going to get real down, pout, check out, and the poor play will continue and compound, and it will be the worst season in almost 2 decades, or they will get pissed, have some pride, dig deep, get their shite together, and start playing to the level that we all know they are capable of playing at.
This team can be really good, that is the frustrating part, they just gotta get their heads out of their asses.
They didn't snap to attention after being the first Alabama team to lose to Vanderbilt in my life, I don't think there is some great revelation happening with this team.
I wouldn't put money on Alabama straight up much less against the spread this week. Tennessee was probably the best matchup v. a quality team we were going to have the rest of the season because their passing game is a hot mess and yet we still managed to lose that one. I don't like our chances against the next two opponents: each have veteran quarterbacks and potent WRs.
I hope I'm wrong but I think 2024 is cooked.

Shawn Alexander was to 1999 as Cam Newton was to 2010 Auburn. Whichever way this goes, it won't be nearly as bad as 2000

Alabama has regressed severely over the last 4 games overall. The defense looked good on Saturday, but everything else has gotten worse and worse.
Passing:
190 QB rating, then 188, then 142, then 98.
Rushing
5.41 yards per carry, then 4, then 2.7 then 2.2
Scoring
41 points, then 35, then 27, then 17.
We have gotten to the part of the year where all of our tendencies and offensive schemes are on film. This is the part of the year where you need to go deeper in the playbook and add new wrinkles and concepts into the game plan.
We are currently working with a QB that is incapable of doing that. If you're still struggling with the reads in the base offense then you can't progress to the next part of the playbook and advance your game planning. We're stuck try to out "athlete" our opponents, since we are limited with scheme and we don't have a significant personnel advantage anymore.
Long story short, we can't progress, because our QB has hit a ceiling.

Smoke and mirrors, the defense gave up 214 yards on the ground and the UT QB and offense was inept in missing guys running wide open for TDs. Had it not been for the turnovers the defense was below average and gave up 24 points in one half. This team has a myriad of issues including a below average defense, subpar QB play, and highly undisciplined.

Tendencies and schemes were on film this time last year as well
Milroe just sucked the last two weeks, plain and simple. Last weekend the plays were there. It wasn't the defense blowing up our scheme, it was him missing wide open WRs badly on what should have been SEVERAL big plays. And then there were the two awful ints, one of which at minimum took 3 points(probably 7) off the board for us, and flipped the field, and the other put the dagger in any possibility of us making a game-tying drive and ended the game. Then there was the fact that he wouldn't take off and run when there were big chunks of yards available.
Then you throw in 15 penalties that constantly put in worst positions than we should have been in, and you have what we saw on Saturday.

That's more or less what I was saying. Points get harder to come by as the year rolls on and Milroe is stuck.
He isn't making the correct reads and straight up missing that there are multiple guys running free and he has running lanes open. The dude has hit a ceiling and the offense can't progress if he can't progress. The last 3.5 weeks have been bad, last week was particularly atrocious. I've seen very few QB performances that were worse in my life.

Bingo, that’s a goodie.
Some of the stuff that we’ve been alluding to has started coming to light. Don’t believe everything you hear and read, but there are truths out there and will be more out there.

I hate to even think this but there is a legitimate chance this team goes 8-4 this season

It’s funny really. I doubt seriously most of you ever heard of Alabama football before 2008.
If you have, perhaps a reminder or two is in order.
Travel back in time to 1983, the greatest coach in the history of the game retired, and Ray Perkins took over. Year 2 he was 5-6 and that was the first losing season in 27 years after going 8-4 year one.
If that happened today, 95% plus of the people on this board would have been screaming for him to be fired by game 4 (after a loss to Vandy). He turned it around and ended up getting hired away by Tampa Bay two years later.
There was this guy named Nick Saban who lost to La Monroe who again 95% of you would have screamed to fire after that game. Hell you bitched unmercifully after going 10-3 in 2010 and losing to LSU in 2011 that we’d never be good again. How did that turn out?
You got spoiled by Saban and the success we’ve had and the consistency we’ve enjoyed. Well the party is over, and it’s time for the bill to come due.
That bill has one item on it right now. Patience.
I’m not happy staring down the barrel of missing the playoff. But I do understand we have a new coach, and there’s going to be growing pains associated with it.
The one question you really just need to ask yourself. Who was the best coach we could get? The answer according to the greatest coach in the history of the game is the one we hired.
I’ve got a lot of faith in Saban’s judgment when it comes to football. Maybe you should try it.

I don’t know man. Nick Saban suggested Houston Nutt to be his replacement at LSU.
