if Georgia had played against Texas they would've had similar struggles.

Georgia is same as last year's supposedly great defense. They play a weak schedule. Alabama's offense dominated that defense in the SEC title game.

It’s wild to see people trying to dub Georgia as the greatest team ever this early in the season. I don’t doubt that UGA is very good, probably even elite, but I still don’t think they’ve played a very good team yet. That being said, I don’t know if we have either.

You are totally right. They only have one more formidable offense on their schedule.

I can’t complain much about the defense when they’re on the field most of the time because the offense can’t get a first down.

I think the only fair criticism is that it feels like the defense has struggled to produce turnovers.

Turnovers aren't always a product of how good the defense is, but elite defenses tend to create turnover opportunities. This season that doesn't seem to happen despite playing against some mediocre offenses.

Defense definitely kept us in that game, albeit against a hobbled backup QB. I’m no

According to reports from people that watched Texas's practices, Hudson Card outperformed Quinn Ewers in fall camp and was expected to start. Don't know if Ewers started based on potential or if the reports were wrong.

See? We're getting worse.

You're right. I think a lot of that has to do with Bryce being unwilling to pick up four or five yards on the ground when no receivers are wide open.

Have you watched Bryce at all this year? He has definitely been willing to run.

He's definitely been running more. He's also still holding the ball a long time looking for the big pass to open up.

The difference between last season and this one so far is that eventually when he made time like that someone got loose last year. Not so much this season.

For example on Saturday he took over 8 seconds trying to find someone to throw to on the first interception he threw. 8 seconds. If no one is open after 8 seconds run the ball.

Lol no I’m not Pete Golding. Just a fan making an observation.

It was a joke about his dad. I’ve read he called into a radio show after someone was talking a bunch of trash about Pete.

I've watched every snap he's taken this year and yes he's still waiting too long to take off and make something happen with his feet. Dont let the rushing yardage from the first game fool you. He's still being very tentative to run as he was last year.

That's my point. There have been numerous times this year where he's had at least five seconds in the pocket and he takes a sack or tries to run at the last minute and he cant get the first down.

I think that Pete has gotten better since he’s been with us, but my main criticism at this point seems to be his lack of ability to quickly make adjustments to his game plan when our D is getting exploited.

I’m of the opinion that Coach Saban could get a much better DC in to more effectively take advantage of the talent we have, but at this stage in his career, I think he’d prefer someone he can mentor and train up (and demand loyalty from), rather than have a continuing revolving-door of coordinators that are just here to springboard into a HC job. If Pete keeps improving, I’m happy to have him stay for the remainder of Saban’s tenure.

BOB on the other hand needs to learn what the frick a HB screen is in the time he has remaining here, and subsequently needs to frick off to Nebraska.

The criticism on Golding is like when we criticized Smart, but everyone forgets about that. His defense still gets gashed at times when they play a pulse.

Honestly the only “perfect” DC we ever had was Pruitt.

If BOB gets an F at OC, then Pete gets a B- at DC. The defense is better overall, the run defense is solid, if not spectacular, but the secondary/pass rush is still a project. We don't cover well, (and if you doubt that, check out yards per attempt and yards per completion-ugly)and even with the best rush end in football PLUS his protege' to balance the blocking on the other side, we aren't getting to the QB. We are currently tied for 47th in sacks despite our creampuff early schedule plus Texas. And our blitz packages are atrocious, especially the corner or safety blitzing off the corner. I have a heart attack every time I see that blitz coming because 95% the blitzer gets home but blows the tackle.

I dont think so. The question is WHY do we all hate Goldings defense? It's because it lacks aggression and the "hateful" style of defense we enjoyed with Kirby Smart and Jeremy Pruitt.

You can read off stats all day long, but most Alabama fans miss seeing our guys teeing off and hitting people. Not to mention with our collection of defensive talent, a blind monkey could coach our defense with success

Lets see how may folks are praising Pete Golding after we play TN and TAM

It's weird. We've had some good stretches but I just feel like he makes some really weird calls in a lot of games. His strategy of playing back and dropping his rushers in coverage just always seems to work negatively

He has to develop a clock for his future. Only time I see him toss one away is when he gets flushed out of the pocket. And even then a lot of the times he still tries to make a play
