Alabama would likely have a easier time making the playoff if they left the SEC into another conference....My only mandate is that we also drop auburn from our schedule.

Go independent and coast into the playoffs every year.

That would be some seriously crappy regular season games.

See Notre Dame. Might have 2 regular season games worth watching.

Independence isn't an option because the SEC isn't going to let us stick around in the other non-football sports. Gotta make a decision on what conference we join and frankly the ACC And Big-12 are the only ones desperate enough to give us a sweetheart deal.

The ACC is going to implode in 2036, so no thanks to going there. I read somewhere the Big 12 referred to the "Home for Schools No One Wanted", which is kind of true. Pass.

Big Ten-It'd never happen. They look down their collective noses at us.

That leave us with G5 conferences (AAC, Sunbelt, etc). No one wants to watch Bama beat the living doo doo out of schools like Georgia Southern every week.

Independent in theory sounds good but fact is, a no go. We're not like Notre Dame. Love 'em or hate 'em, they're the de facto national Catholic university of America. While we may like to think EVERYONE across the country loves Bama, that's not really the case.

We're stuck getting routinely hosed by the conference because they know we really don't have any where else to go.

We’re the geographical center of the Deep South. Anything other than the ACC is super dumb. I think adding Alabama could make that conference solvent but I think it would take Auburn coming too.

Big 10 would absolutely take us. ACC would give us a Texas/Big 12 type deal.

We won’t though because our athletic department doesn’t play hard ball like that. They just let the commissioner shite on us with no repercussions.

Football Only Gump. We have lots of them lol.

The poster is saying it’s football centric to want to leave the SEC to go independent because all the other teams need conferences. I’m a huge basketball fan. I’m honestly just tired of how Sankey is running the league. Alabama is the traditional big dog of this conference and the main reason it’s in the position of power it’s in and we’ve had multiple instances in the last 30 years of being treated by the conference like we’re Vanderbilt. It’s time to start waving the big stick.

The FOGs usually don’t KNOW shite about football or anything else. But they do only CARE about it.

If UCLA can join the Big 10 and have all their teams travel to the Midwest with absolutely zero money coming in for even their football team aside from conference rev share then we could do ACC or Big 10.

I’m also of the belief that all non profit sports should have different conferences based on region. There’s not much reason for our swim team to be traveling to Columbia, Missouri just because the football big wigs thought they’d be a good football tv market.

It's only 50 miles further than Fayetteville, AR. UNC is right under 20 miles closer than mizzou. I'm not sure any big 10 school is closer than that. We've actually swam a tri meet with lsu and fsu last 3 years, once at each location. Outside swimming against the dumpster fire known as gtech, there's nobody else with any sort of travel savings. I get your statement was hypothetical, but what i say pretty much applies to pretty much all the old equivalency sports.
