Alabama ranked dead last in opponent penalties, 130/130.
This should not surprise anyone. The officials turn a blind eye on the teams when they commit penalties playing Bama.

I believe Bama ranked last in opponent penalties last year too.

Stats like that truly illustrate how delusional some other SEC fans are about what causes our success and their failure.

We get shafted every year on Opponent's Penalty Yds:
'17 - 130 out of 130 teams
'16 - 128 of 128
'15 - 102 of 128
'14 - 123 of 128
'13 - 89 of 125
'12 - 108 of 124
'11 - 117 of 120

Yet the refs were giving us charity vs A&M. That PI that was uncatchable was such bull shite.

I would like an answer for this. Not going to go all LSU fan and claim there’s a conspiracy but there has to be a reason behind it.
The officiating Saturday was horrendous.

It was pretty bad, but sadly that seems to be the new norm in college football. I really think there's been an emphasis on not flag offensive holding as much to help speed the games up. Buggs was being held all night by their LT and I saw our OL get away with a few.
Maybe I;m just drawing a blank, but the PI on Wallace was really the only really bad call I remember. The non-review of Kirk's TD catch was puzzling, but I don't think there was enough there to overturn it.

What have they been spending my REC checks on?
Posted on 10/9/17 at 9:46 am to jatebe
Pretty much every SEC team except Kentucky is down there near the bottom. Tells me SEC officials let folks get away with a lot, and when they're playing Bama they can be assured any non-obvious penalties will not be called.

Wow I didn't realize it was this bad. Hell Clemson ran 100 plays on Bama last year and didn't have a single offensive penalty.

Is there another more "WTF ?" Statistic in college football?..

There were definitely some questionable calls against us Saturday.

not just your game; but it seems every game has a critical turn on a "bad" or at least "marginal" call
other fans raise hell and make "call the rec in Bham" jokes because a lot of times; when Bama IS the beneficiary of a bad call; it seems to be at a critical point and it seems to get a lot of attention (plus - jealousy & excuses)
but I RARELY watch any SEC game without seeing at least 2 or 3 "head scratcher" from the refs
it makes no damned sense
SEC refs are almost all "weekend warriors" that have day jobs - right?
that also means that more often than not; refs are assigned to games based on proximity - right? (not 100% sure, but I THINK this is the case - pretty sure about this being a part time gig though)
there is SO MUCH money being generated by SEC football - why the hell can't we figure out a way to spend between $8 - $10 million and have full time professional refs?
hell, every major conference should do this
these guys get full authority during games (yes, we have replay officials as a safety net; but not all calls are reviewable)

Think about this way. We’ve had arguably one of the best Front 7’s in history during 2014-2015, yet you could probably count on one hand the number of holds called on opposing teams. I know holding is not called as much but it’s still mindboggling. The fact that we consistently at the bottom of this stat proves there’s something going on, whether it be bias of officials, our style of play, or simply the SEC refs letting things go due to speeding up the game. There has to be some kind of explanation.
The non-review of A&M’s first TD is Exhibit A that the refs aren’t in the bag for us. You at least take a look it. They’ll take their time to review every other questionable call but not that?
Matt Austin’s crew Saturday was terrible. I was ready for one of the refs to call a charging foul and enthusiatically point in the other direction like you see in basketball during the middle of a run by one team.

It has always been this way. It's that way in the NFL although this season was the first one where they are beginning to professionalize the position.

quote:kind of amazing, huh? No false starts, no holding with a scrambling QB, etc. Probably wouldn't have changed the outcome but the lottery odds are better than 100 plays without a penalty.
clemson ran 100 plays....

It's the no calls that piss me off. Devonta Smith beat his guy on a go route and hurts finally threw a perfect ball. Cornerback reached out and grabbed his jersey from behind and held it for 1-2 seconds while the ball was in the air
That play was likely a touchdown without the PI, but they didn't throw the flag. I posted a thread on the rant, it's not just Alabama getting screwed, there's a clear pattern of bad officiating

A&M regularly lined up offsides and didn't get flagged once.
Of course, for bad officiating, this past weekend, it's hard to beat the LSU-FL game

I noticed that too and it was pretty blatant.
