I also think UGA will be much improved and possibly a tournament team.
It's clearly a make or break year for Crean, especially with a pretty decent returning core.

I just don't see them being much better than they were this year. They don't lose a ton but they don't add a ton either. Wheeler is about as good as you can expect a 5'9" guard to be, but players that undersized rarely score efficiently and he is no different.

So Bediako and Burnett are seen as pretty sure things?

Bediako is I guess but the waiting thing is odd.
Burnett I don't think anyone really knows. The smoke is that it's us, and he loved us in recruiting, but who knows.

I'm starting to wonder if Bediako is wanting to skip college altogether since he's already a year older than the rest of the class. It would explain his decision not to reclassify and the odd delay in signing. There hasn't been any smoke on that front though and there usually is with those guys, so who knows.

Quinerly (SO)
Wasn't Quinerly a RS SO this year?
18/19 - Villanova
19/20 - Sit out year (RS)
20/21 - Alabama
It's one reason I thought he might test the draft waters because he is a little older. I think he will be back but wouldn't be surprised for him to get evaluated so he can see what he needs to work on next year.

The biggest hole we are going to have to fill is Herb's defensive versatility. We don't really have anyone who fits that bill.
Don't disagree that Herb leaves a huge hole but I think Gary can step in nicely. He was able to guard all 5 positions this year (although not very effectively against the true bigs).

Tchikou is 6’11 240
Has anyone heard how he is rehabbing? Torn Achilles is no joke.

Just throwing this out there: Crowds will be returning next year. Hard to say how that factors in because it basically comes out as a wash for everyone. However, it was nice knowing that we could go out on the road this past year and not have to worry about weird home court advantages that you usually see in CBB.
Coleman will be rocking next year....there's no doubt about that.

I've seen full game films. He will be fine.
Only concern is he can be selective on playing defense. I've seen him lock guys down on the perimeter but he is not consistent with that. I'm sure Oats will get that importance across to him.
Isn't another knock that competition hasn't been great? Doesn't he play in a lower classification?

He does but he's been just as dominant in AAU. I know defense isn't as emphasized in AAU but the talent is there.

Haha that’s fricking hilarious. JD will be a one and done top 10 pick. There is zero chance he isn’t a starter.
Wait, are you talking about Primo?
Sometimes the transition to D1 is a little more time consuming than fans are willing to allow. No need to put undue pressure on the kid. He will be part of a deep and talented team and will not be required to be the hero every night. Just saying.

Tide signee Jusaun Holt ready to get to work at Alabama (BOL)
Alabama men’s basketball is reloading on the recruiting trail in 2021, currently sitting with a three-man class that ranks within the top 20 of the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. BamaOnLine broke down the whole class, as well as remaining targets earlier on Monday. One of UA’s signees, Jusaun Holt is looking forward to making his way to Tuscaloosa this summer.
“I’m definitely looking forward to working hard every day with my teammates and building that bond with them,” Holt told BamaOnLine. “I’m also looking forward to the new change from high school to college and I’m just excited to get there.”
Holt averaged 21.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game this season for Roswell (Ga.) St. Francis Day School. Through it all he made sure to tune in for Crimson Tide basketball.
“I think their season was great overall,” Holt said. “Coach Oats did a great job all season and especially how far we have come I think was great. I believe that we will definitely be back in the tourney next season.”
Speaking of next season, Holt is working on recruiting more talent to UA. “Yes 100 percent,” Holt replied when asked if he’s working on getting guys to Tuscaloosa.”Me and JD (Davison) especially. Definitely targeting Nimari (Burnett) and (Charles) Bediako. And we are just building relationships with them and telling them to come join the squad and that it can be something special.”
Holt wrapped up his own recruitment back in September prior to signing in November. His relationship with the staff was and remains a key reason why he’s rolling with the Tide. “The relationship I have with the staff is great,” Holt said. “Especially my coaches. We talk all the time and I’m just very excited to play for them.”
At 6-foot-6, 200 pounds, Holt is rated the No. 24 small forward and the No. 103 overall player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Agreed. We will have to replace Herb's contributions through a committee. Bediako, Tchikou, and Wilson should help mitigate the defensive drop off with more rim protection from the 5-spot. The question mark comes from how we will adjust with our perimeter defense as 2 of our best on-ball defenders are gone in Petty and Herb. Ellis getting more minutes will help with that, as well as some progression from Primo, but we aren't projected to add much perimeter defense with our new comers outside of Holt. Holt looks capable, but great perimeter defense is usually a hard thing for a freshman to come in and master right away so I'd expect him to have a sit and wait kind of year like Miles did.

JD can play lockdown defense if need be. He also dominated everybody he played against from his Junior to Senior year.

I thought The exact same thing last year that Shack would be benched for JQ, Petty, Primo. It didn’t happen then, it’s not happening now. 2-year started, and he’s our leading scorer. You don’t bench the leading scorer

JD is in a completely different tier than all of those guys. He is a guaranteed starter.
He will be our leading scorer and ball-handler.

Well who you benching to start JD?
The Best player on the team at the end of the season or the 2 year starter who was our leading scorer?

I'm excited about JD too but going from 2A in Alabama to D1/SEC is a big jump. Calm the expectation a touch.
Posted on 3/30/21 at 11:46 am to mistaken4193
Part of the issue is that we need a finisher at the rim. The teams we struggled against later in the year didn't pull of their man to help on the drive and sometimes Q and Shack had trouble finishing at the rim due to their height and leaping ability. Starting JD would give us a finisher.
