He dominated the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Game as well. It's an extreme rarity for a top 10 recruit to not start regardless of where they go. Not saying it won't happen, but pretending that there's no chance is a joke. There's a big jump in quality between the top 10 and the borderline 5-stars.
For what it's worth, I am on record of calling out an "insider" that said Primo would "no doubt" start over Shackelford this year, so I'm very cautious with my expectations of most freshmen. However, JD is a Sexton level of player. Not saying it's impossible, but I'd be a little surprised if he didn't start.

He’s more going from Nike EYBL/Adidas Gauntlet to D1. Basketball players are projected based on AAU play against the other top players.
I agree to with calming the expectations though. Defense is at a different level in college.
