The loss by OSU or Michigan was the point.

So, if Bama wins Saturday, do we jump to a 1 seed over the loser of OSU/Mich?
I feel like we'd jump OSU if they lose but not Michigan if they lose. Michigan would be playing on the road and it would only be their second loss of the season.
Thoughts?
Doubtful. It's likely that Illinois replaces the loser as a 1 seed. They're going to give a couple of 1 seeds to the B1G. It's just a question of which two teams get them. And yes I know that our resumé is comparable to Illinois at worst, if not clearly better.

I think the only way we get a #1 seed is if we win out or only lose @ Arkansas and then win the SEC Tournament.
Otherwise, pretty settled at #2 unless we have a bad loss.

Even then I think we'd need a lot of help from mid-tier B1G teams knocking off the top of the conference early in their tournament. The SEC is still not a respected basketball conference because the reputation we earned in that 2006-2016 range was so bad. Things are much better now, but I think it's still going to take some time. And since our OOC performance was, to be perfectly honest, fricking terrible odds are our seeding will be capped at 2. I think if we had beaten OU we'd have a legit shot at a 1, but I just don't see it with a 5-4 record overall and 1-3 record against P-6 opponents OOC. And again, I understand that Illinois also didn't exactly light the world on fire OOC, but winning in the B1G gets them waaaaay more credit than winning in the SEC does for us.

Aren't we the highest 2 seed right now on Lunardi's bracket?
We are two spots ahead of Illinois I think.
I don't think we will end up as a 1 seed, but nice to dream.
I have a feeling we will lose the Arkansas game and not win the SEC tournament. A lot will depend on the health of the players. Need everyone at full speed to win the SEC tournament.

I agree. I think the OU loss with them playing without Reaves really hurt us.

There's not a great deal of difference between the #1 and 2 seeds. #1's generally get a free pass in round 1 playing the #16 (minus UVa a few years back) but otherwise, I don't see how it matters much.
All about matchups.

And being a #1 or #2 really isn't all that different. I don't have the stats in front of me but I don't think there is much difference in terms of #1 or #2s getting to the Final Four over the last 10-15 years, any part of is there are always 1-2 #1 seeds that are great teams and then 1-2 who are borderline #1/2 seeds.
Average FF Appearances Per Year By Seed
#1 Seed - 1.6 (40%)
#2 Seed - 0.8 (20%)
#3 Seed - 0.5 (13%)
#4 Seed - 0.4 (10%)
#5 Seed - 0.2 (5%)
#6 Seed - 0.1 (3%)
#7 Seed - 0.1
#8 Seed - 0.1

The one round where it matters is probably the Sweet 16. I think the biggest drop off in team quality in the top half of the bracket is between the 3s and 4s, and 2 seeds probably face 3 seeds at a higher rate than 1s play 4 seeds on top of that.

Gonna disagree. I think that with a healthier Herb, which he is now, that we beat Arkansas. With Herb and Brunner and the 1 seed, we have an almost insurmountable advantage in the SEC tourney.
We staaackeed. Every one else... well, you know.

Not guaranteed Illi will win out. Minnesota could beat them this weekend.
If that happens we're ranked #4 in every metric (also considering one of OSU and Michigan will lose).
We do have to win out and beat Arkansas but in all honesty we need to get back to beating the good teams and as we do the weak ones.

Oats likes a tournament setting and had plenty of success in the conference tournament at Buffalo, winning it three times in his four years.
No guarantee obviously, but we'll have a decent shot to win it imo.
