TAMU game next week may not be played. They're having a COVID issues. We could use a week off to get everyone healthy.
That would be incredibly fortunate for us. Playing them gains us nothing, we avoid a road trip and everything that goes with it, get a whole week off, etc.
I wouldn't go quite as far as to say playing them gains us nothing. A&M postponement robs us of a game against a cellar dweller when we have 3 as a magic number.
I do agree that the opportunity to rest is vastly more important. Too bad its not @ARK, @MSU, or AUB that gets postponed instead. I would rather play the easy ones and cancel the tough ones.

Gonzaga by itself has as many or more than every conference except for the Big 10, Big 12, and Big East.

Main worry about missing a game is having to play Saturday March 6 in the make up games. However, A&M and Vandy have missed playing each other twice, so that game should be on that make up day instead of us and A&M. Only 5 SEC teams have played a full SEC schedule: Bama 11/1, Ole Miss 6/6, and State, Georgia, and Auburn all at 5/7. Everybody else would need to play that Saturday before we do, and if we have clinched the conference those mid-week games, no need for us to play for tournament seeding. Of course, A&M will likely be ready to go next Wednesday.

Yeah, I hear you on all of that. I'm just saying with 6 games left and a magic number of 3, @A&M is the 2nd easiest game left, so definitely one you want to get in if you can.

9. Alabama Crimson Tide
Any team that can shoot it like Alabama is never counted out -- and can always beat almost anyone. Alabama was outplayed at Missouri yet still had a chance to win the game at the end. Almost half of the Crimson Tide's field goals are 3s, and they can bury you with them in a hurry. Alabama also plays ridiculously fast, as if the ball is a hand grenade with the pin pulled out. But the game needs good teams like Alabama that remind us that scoring is more fun than not. There are several different styles to play that are valid and that win. The issue is whether Alabama can figure out how to seize back the tempo when opponents try to slow it down. Both Oklahoma and Missouri were able to slow the tempo of the game and disrupt the Tide's offensive rhythm. Can Alabama play slower and still score with abandon? Alabama is going to win the SEC, and Herbert Jones should be SEC player of the year. No player in the league, and maybe the country, is as valuable in so many areas as Jones. He is a star.

Just posted this on the Rant because I was curious about experience so I looked into it
Was curious about how much experience matters so I went to KenPom to take a look.
Below are the Top 20 Big 6 Conference teams in terms of returning experience (as defined by KenPom) and the Bottom 20 Big 6 Conference teams in terms of returning experience. Then, their adjusted efficiency figure for 2020 and 2021, the change in it and the % change.
Finally, at the bottom, to sort of add a face to the number, the average efficiency in 2020 and 2021 for those teams and where that efficiency would have ranked in 2021.
Kind of interesting findings
- If you return a lot of experience, chances are very good you will be better than the year before. The only 4 teams in the Top 20 that did not improve were Seton Hall (who is basically the same), Georgetown (who technically returned minutes but lost their 2 best players), Oregon State and Oregon.
- However, on the flip side, losing minutes is not necessarily a death nail to your team. However, the 5 teams that returned the fewest minutes (Auburn, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Kansas State) dropped from an average ranking of #35 to an average ranking of #71.
Anyway, I found it interesting, thought I'd share.

quote:Agree. Alabama will have over a week off at the end of the regular season. Last game on 3/2, first SEC tournament game on 3/12. So, IMO, it would probably be better to go ahead and play A&M in terms of rest, assuming wins vs UGA, A&M and Vandy (I realize Bama could lose any) and no other postponements, then the last 3 (@Ark, @MSU, AU) would not be needed for the reg season title.

Someone please refresh my memory regarding:
How is the win-percentage calculated to consider postponements? Or is it?
quote:
Conference Championship/Tournament [SEC Bylaw 30.22.1.3]
1. The team with the highest percentage of wins during regular-season Conference competition will be declared the Conference champion.

That's literally all it says in the Commissioner's Regulations regarding the regular season championship.
So I guess it will boil down to if/when the postponed games will be rescheduled and played or changed from postponed to cancelled.
Here are the bylaws for games that are postponed:

Here are the bylaws for games that are postponed:
quote:
3. Guidelines. [Revised: 12/13/16]
A. Prior to the Contest.
1. If extenuating circumstances occur that necessitate a contest be moved to an earlier start time, an
earlier start date, and/or relocated within the same city, the two participating institutions shall
determine the date, time, and location of the contest, subject to the approval of the Commissioner.
If the participating institutions are unable to agree on rescheduling, the Commissioner shall have
the authority to direct the time, date, and location of the contest as necessary. A team’s refusal to
play in a rescheduled contest as directed by the Commissioner shall be considered a forfeit.
2. If a contest is postponed prior to its start for any reason, the contest shall be rescheduled for the
following day (e.g. a Saturday game shall be rescheduled for Sunday) unless extenuating
circumstances prevent the contest from being played, in which case the two participating
institutions, in consultation with the Commissioner or his/her designee, shall reschedule the contest
for a later time or date. If the participating institutions are unable to agree on rescheduling, the
Commissioner shall have the authority to direct the time, date, and location of the contest as
necessary. A team’s refusal to play in a rescheduled contest as directed by the Commissioner shall
be considered a forfeit.
3. Prior to the start of a contest, the home institution’s Director of Athletics or designated senior level
administrator shall have the authority to determine whether a contest should temporarily be delayed
until a later time on the same date due to extenuating circumstances. If circumstances which may
warrant a delay occur, a participating institution shall immediately notify the opposing institution
and the conference office. In the event a contest is temporarily delayed, the home institution shall
ensure that both participating institutions are provided a minimum of 45 minutes of warm-up time
on the playing floor prior to the start of the contest. [Revised: 12/20/18]

So what is the injury deal with Herb's back? Have they given any insights as to what the problem is and why it won't heal?

I'm having to work at home with school kids who aren't physically in school (and a wife who is), so my hours of operation are all over the fvckin map.
I have to force myself into little breaks or I'll crack. My breaks just happen to be sports stats instead of watching a rerun episode of The Office.
