There's no way you can honestly look at the program (and especially after this game) and think it has any chance of heading in the right direction. Greg Byrne needs to do his job and get rid of something that is inevitable.

I don't think he will be head coach next season.

Not trying to split hairs, but how is Norfolk State the worst loss in Alabama history?
I don't get their terrible Kenpom rating. It's not like they were 5-25 on the season.

I can think of worse losses in recent Alabama history than last night. Georgia State, eg.

Well you can either spin it one way or the other. For me Norfolk State is a team we should be by double digits on any given night, especially in the post season.

It's not only the worst loss according to KenPom but it's the biggest upset in the history of the NIT given the spread and their rankings. I don't doubt losing to a 5-25 team looks worse but I also don't dare to compare losing to Georgia State early in the season and losing like this 34 games in.

I don't know about the entirity of Alabama history, but it's the worst team we've lost to in the last 18 years.

Georgia State is a NCAAT team that is from a non-SWAC/MEAC conference and competes with P5 team when they play them.

I thought a decent showing in the NIT (at least two wins) would have ensured him another year, but I honestly don't see how they can justify bringing him back now regardless of the buyout. I mean if they bring him back we may not average ~5k in actual attendance next season. It will be bad.

Worst losses since 2002 per KenPom

(1) 2019 - vs #244 Norfolk State (22-13)
(2) 2009 - vs #218 Mercer (17-15)
(3) 2014 - @ #191 South Florida (12-20)
(4) 2016 - @ #189 Auburn (11-20)
(5) 2012 - @ #164 South Carolina (10-21)
(6) 2009 - (N) #159 Oregon (8-23)

Generally the best teams in the SWAC/MEAC aren't even top 200 in the country. Half of those conferences are usually outside of the top 300. They are bad. Really bad. It's the equivalent of our football team losing to a DII school. A P-5 team almost has to be actively trying to lose in order to drop a game against any team from either of those conferences.

Pretty much says it all.

The exasperating thing is the lousy FT shooting.

My HS coach had us run a suicide for every FT missed when we lost. Not the ones you missed, the ones everyone missed.

You didn’t have to ask people to practice FT

I thought the same thing....if we had a strong showing and went deep in the NIT, you could make a case for one more year.

Maybe we have had worse losses over the years, but last night reset the floor for Bama basketball.

Yea I didn't think we would have a strong showing, just because we are just a bad team right now (for the last month). So, I thought at worst we'd win an ugly game last night and then lose to Colorado or whatever and it would be bleh.

I didn't think we could possibly implode like last night and just kind of shake the foundation. Honestly, it was pretty much the best thing the program could have had.

I think Avery has to be done. We have the talent to be a tourney team and make a decent run....its just down to bad coaching and development and that is on Avery.....but now I am worried about what happens next? I have seen all of the candidates mentioned but are we just going to be back in this boat by year three or four?

Well we can make a change and hire the best man we can find or we can stay with what we’ve got. We know what we’ve got is bad and getting worse by the game. If we make a change, at least there’s hope for improvement for at least a couple of seasons. And who knows, we may hire the next Wimp or CM.

If Byrne hasn't made announcement on parting ways by tomorrow fanbase impatience gonna set in.
Need to be making calls to prospective coaches soon.
However, if Prohm is his guy he'll keep it on down low best he can till they get put out of tournament.

Yeah good point....basically we are left with no choice. Avery isn't going to turn the corner.

I mean, others might, I won't. I trust Byrne on knowing the logistics of firing and hiring a coach.

Is Prohm's buyout really 4.6 million?

Granted, I am reaching here, but there’s always the possibility Prohm has a dream job clause and Alabama is one of the schools listed.

I know, I know, wishful thinking on my part.
