Oats brought him here to play offense like Herb. He is going to be a primary ball handler in his Junior and Senior seasons if he is still here. He has some obvious PG skills, just needs to tighten up his handles a bit as he plays a little too loose with the ball.

Yup. He had a nice fake pull-up pass to KAH who wasn’t ready for it.

Of all the stats last night, I think my favorite is Darius Miles took eight shots in nine minutes
I would have thought Miles took 15 shots last night. He just dribbled up and took a 3 a few times and didn't really let the subs run much offense. He definitely has a very high upside though. Sure that's one reason Oats complained about the play in the last 8 or so minutes in his post game.

Yeah, I think Miles has shown good vision, passing ability and anticipation. He's still raw, but tons of upside there.

Miles has some skills. He just looked like he was in a hurry and the game was moving fast for him, which is understandable for a freshman who hasn't played much. Oats has turned Herb into a quality player on the offensive end. Not just a non-liability, but an actually good player. Miles is further along on a lot of stuff now than Herb was after a couple of seasons of college ball. He has a bright future IMO.

So the Committee is gonna release their official 16-team “1st Bracket” on February 1st. If we win against MSU, Kentucky, and @Oklahoma, the question won’t be if we’re on there, it’ll be how high

Miles’s skill set reminds me of freshman Shack. Lefty, above average 3pt shooter, quick release, competent ball handler, but not really a primary.
But those skills come with a Herb Jones frame! It will be fun to watch Oats get to develop him.

We are better than all those teams and I'd be shocked if we don't win at least two. I just want to see us grind out a win or two against solid competition when we aren't hitting from deep.

Herb, by the way, is playing at a super high level.
He was great offensively last night, and the defense is just ridiculous. There was one sequence where he helped on a driver, cut him off, and then dropped off and managed to take away two passing options.
I get the sense you'd see more of that kind of thing if you re-watched games and kept an eye on him.
Not to mention, he took it to Watford individually. Let him know about it a few times too.
I think he should get serious SEC player of the year consideration if we win the conference.
The numbers aren't really there offensively, but on the other hand most of the good teams in this league are pretty balanced and don't really have big time scorers (outside of Thomas for LSU).
Edit: Petty probably deserves a look too.

Herb is our MVP, without a doubt. And I agree he should be the SEC POTY. Right now, he is the best player on the best team in the conference.
He is the 2nd best defensive player behind Pons, but then comes to the other end and plays point guard on the best offense in the SEC.
Herb's per-40 stats in conference:
PTS: 21.4
FG: 7.2/14.2 (50.9%)
3pt: 1.3/2.6 (50%)
FT: 5.7/7.0 (81.5%)
REB: 8.3
AST: 3.9
STL: 3.1
BLK: 1.8
TO: 4.4
Petty also has an argument.
Petty's per-40 stats in conference:
PTS: 22.3
FG: 8.3/13.8 (59.7%)
3pt: 5.0/8.8 (56.5%)
FT: 0.8/1.0 (80%)
REB: 6.7
AST: 2.3
STL: 1.3
BLK: 0.2
TO: 1.9
Petty v. Herb per-40 in conference
PTS: Petty +0.9
FG: Petty (+1.1 FGM / -0.4 FGA) +8.8% FGM
3pt: Petty (+3.7 3PM / +6.2 3PA) +6.5% 3PM
FT: Herb (+4.9 FTM / +6 FTA) (+1.5% FTM)
REB: Herb +1.6
AST: Herb +1.6
STL: Herb +1.8
BLK: Herb +1.6
TO: Petty -2.5

I think the rapid development of Josh Primo has been a real key to this run. Kid oozes talent and is letting it show now. Really all of the guys have gotten a lot better individually since they starting trusting their teammates to knock down open looks. This team is a far cry from the one we saw against Stanford

Yeah I'm excited about Primo. Looks like he could be a stud once he gets more experienced

I would lean Herb, but Petty's shooting numbers are just absurd

I agree and hope Oats can hold onto Primo for a 2nd year to ease the loss of our seniors

Just a reminder. We were up by 43 at one point last night. FOURTY THREE!
