Our team basically has 6 starters:

Herb
Petty
Shack
Primo
Bruner
Quinerly

Herb (8), Bruner (19), and Quinerly (0) combined to play 27 minutes last night.

We won by 20 at Rupp and handed Calipari the worst home loss since he has been at Kentucky to move to 5-0 in the conference...

Someone pinch me.

But of course, Herb Jones had started hitting 3's, which is basically a cheat code. And the basketball gods said "we can't be having none of that" and took our Herb and Bruner as our penance.

Bruner would be a much bigger loss than Herb, IMO. I know Herb is arguably our MVP up to this point, and deservingly so, but we have wings GALORE and his minutes are much easier to replace than Bruner's minutes.

We entered the year with only three 5's on the roster: Bruner, Reese, and Tchikou. Reese is the only real 5 left.

Our other options:

Rojas - 6'8 (a very generous listing; he really looks 6'6)
Gary - 6'6 (although he plays bigger than that)
Ambrose-Hylton - 6'8 (clearly not physically ready; not part of rotation to date)

The fact that we played so well without JQ/Herb/Bruner last night when they were out shows how much confidence we have and what a great job Oats has done, and we should get JQ back soon. But he is going to have his work cut out for him figuring out what to do without Bruner.

Brunner is key to our inside game. He is a fantastic offensive rebounder too. It took a few games for chemistry, but he's been one of our best lately. Fingers crossed it's just a sprain. But missing any key players could hurt us Saturday vs Arkansas.

Herb is at Andrews. He just walked past me in the lobby, hand wrapped in huge bandage. Someone asked if he’s OK and he said yes but who knows.

And you didn't offer him your hand? C'mon man!

This morning @nate_oats told the @JOXRoundtable that the team flew into Birmingham and Herb Jones (hand) and Jordan Bruner (knee) at @AndrewsSportMed for evaluation. Update this afternoon.

On the show @nate_oats told us, since the team was forced to fly into BHM, they left those two players in Birmingham to see @AndrewsSportMed today. Indicated they would be without them for a bit.

Multiple guys giving the same backhanded compliment about how we play street ball but do it well? Yeah that's definitely them trying to throw some shade on a team they lost to at home by 20.

I took it as shade - like we just run around jacking up 3's and were lucky they went in tonight. Basically implying we are the same as old Gottfried teams.

But that's fine, because he plays in a 1975 offense and just got that arse beat for 40 minutes. Also, looks like we found out who the "hoopers" were, ay?

Petty obviously had a good game last night, but he did much better than I would have expected taking point in the offense after Herb went down.

I usually get real nervous when he dribbles too much.

I don’t know why Cal didn’t run that half court trap earlier. It looked like it could have worked but they didn’t start until 3 minutes left.

Thought Petty and Shack were both really good - especially after Herb went down.

To me it was Shackleford's best game of the season. He didn't shoot extremely well (he really hasn't all year), but he put up 18 and 6 assists. Handled the ball more than usual and didn't turn the ball over that much (3).

And he even played ok defense.

100% agree. Petty didn't look uncomfortable at all really. Never got himself in trouble like Shack did a couple of times.

Cal should've amped up the pressure immediately, but didn't for whatever reason. Not sure why.
