A lot of people sleeping on Samuels. Talk coaches are incredibly high on him. They think he could be one and done.

Oats has been incredible at finding talent. I have full faith that there will be some studs in this new group.

I like the optimism but unless we get Holloway back I just don’t see that yet. PG: decline SG: decline SF: push/improve PF: improve C: decline

We are getting Aden back

PG: Decline yes but we’ll be bigger, better defensively and rebounding

SG: Better because Biz is a year older

SF: Better and older

PF: A lot better

C: I guess we’ll see. Maybe I’m just ready to move on from Sherrell but I think we can be better here too.

We’ll be significantly better defensively and we won’t get murdered on the boards. I think this personnel will play Oats system a lot better.

You can sort of bet on at least one freshman to be a significant contributor to an outright star player under Oats.

This is a weird year because we’re both fairly veteran - like the Final Four year where Mo D was probably the biggest freshman contributor off the bench - but this freshman class is seemingly a better one too.

Somebody out of the high school signees is going to make an impact and it’s a bit hard to know where and in what role. I’d guess SF will be the spot

People don't understand how close we are. Consistency is the answer. Had Bama shot well at all vs Michigan I am not saying they beat them but they're never comfortable for certain. Mara was a non factor in the first half, he could not play at that pace.

Samuels is a pure scorer and watch out for Tarris Bouie. Just missed out on making the United States U18 team within the last few days.

I really have doubts about that- even though I think a harsh punishment over pot is nonsense because we are one of only 5 states where pot is illegal. Still Aden is charged with “felony” possession, and at the SEC meetings this week Byrne sounded pessimistic about his return. That’s why I think we and Diaz, an Aden clone, are trying to work out a reclassification. Hope Aden can, but lots of obstacles to overcome.

I really hope that Anderson reclassifies. Not just because we need a backup PG, but he looks to be the real deal.

Also think Cole Cloer and Samuels will be lethal from outside. Their game suits the offense.

Just hope Oats can do whatever to fix the defense.

ive been keeping my expectations reasonable for that reason. the freshman look legit and getting amari back is great. the shooting, playmaking, and length all seem there for a good run, and as was mentioned the added general size and bulk across the board is a good upgrade from last seasons team. that said, to me aden is supposed to be the guy who makes it all work. maybe one of the freshmen or even jemison makes up for it without him, but even with the expected jump from a sophomore amari im just not sure there will be enough high level playmaking when it comes to beating specifically the top teams, as of now.

Am I alone in thinking that Aden doesnt impact this teams ceiling or floor all that much?

You mean probably the best player on our team?

That's pretty insane. Holloway as a defender is pretty mid, but offensively he is literally the best ball handler on the team. Plus, he is literally the only one we'd be confident in him generating blow bys and being able to either slash or facilitate. This is not even accounting for the fact either that an open 3 for him it nearly automatic and his creativity to get buckets.

This team is much better with him than without.

This is an insane take. Have we watched the same Aden Holloway the last 2 seasons? Or did you only watch Auburn Aden Holloway?

17ppg 40% 3PT shooter…

Yes. He’s maybe the best pure shooter in program history. Plays perfect in Oats system.

A couple big shots by him against Michigan would’ve gone a long way in keeping us in it.

I understand the pessimism, but look at Biz’s actions this offseason and you start to logically see that his attorneys and our team feel good about him being back

1. We kept a scholarship open for him

2. He’s been allowed back on campus

3. He didn’t transfer when he very easily could’ve. He’d obviously have to still stand trial or work out a deal on the case. But he has permission to leave the state. Some college in a state with decriminalized marijuana would’ve allowed him on immediately.

Byrne is just saying what he has to say. We’re going to get focused Aden like Kobe’s best season when he was on trial

I wonder if playing sober will affect his game in a positive or negative way? Hopefully we have the chance to find out.

I also wonder if not having a source on the team will result in some others playing sober.

I appreciate your optimism, so I’m going to buy your take. It is frustrating to think that possessing pot in this day and age could ruin a young man’s life- especially one like Aden who has never been in trouble.
