There’s like 4 or 5 of us that travel from Montgomery/Prattville for the games on this board.

We definitely need to meet up before the season starts. We may like each other.

Same. My biggest worry was that Knicks workout because they will likely have pick 29 and if you like the fit with Amari then you feel ok promising him at 29.

But at the same time they have a lot of prominent players of his size on that roster so I was cautiously optimistic. But I definitely didn’t like not knowing.

With Philon we didn’t expect him back so it was like a shock surprise last year.

My wife's family still lives there so I'm sure we'll have plenty of opportunities to meet up.

Alabama coach Nate Oats wasn’t in Miramar Beach, Florida, this week during SEC spring meetings because of his duties as an assistant coach for the USA basketball U18 national team. So, AL.com asked Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne about the latest with Holloway, who was arrested and later indicted on felony drug charges earlier this spring.

quote:

Any conversation about whether or not Aden comes back is very premature,” Byrne told AL.com. “Aden still has legal hurdles to overcome. If he works those out, there would still be multiple steps before we would consider a plan to allow him the opportunity to officially rejoin the program. Any discussions are too early.”

quote:

An arraignment is still listed in the court system for Holloway, which is an opportunity for him to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, on June 16 in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court, but his attorney Jason Neff told AL.com on April 10 they will waive the arraignment and enter a not guilty plea. Otherwise, no court dates have been set.

I still think it'll get dismissed before August or agree to a plea deal. I don't see this continuing into basketball season.

I think 4-8 is a little high. Maybe, if everyone works out. Group should have a high ceiling, but I think 12-15 range is more realistic expectation.

Considering it is essentially predicting that Holloway is on the team at all, 3rd try is the charm and we finally get major production out of Garrison, and Jemison takes a big step forward, I'd say the 4-8 is probably based on the everything turning up Gump dream scenario we all cook up in August.

Garrison, Davis-Fleming, and Bristow are the keys to this roster’s trajectory. None will be stars on the stat sheet but those dudes along with Jemison and the young forwards need to be rugged on defense.

Biz is never going to be an elite defender but you sorta do with him what Florida did with Clayton. Let him exert his energy on offense and the size, length, athleticism depth everywhere else covers for it.

I mean it’s just a lot of unknowns. A couple of the freshmen will have to be really good. Garrison and Davis Fleming need to be good. Fielder needs to prove he can be good at this level of play. Jemison needs to continue to develop. Holloway has to be cleared. I think the ceiling is very high but it takes a lot of unproven things working out. It’s an intriguing roster, but honestly the only sure thing is Allen. And even he has to take the next step. He kind of hit that freshman wall down the stretch last year.

The biggest thing is I think we’re significantly better and bigger and more experienced at almost every position. Philon we’ll miss but other than that I could make an argument we’re better everywhere.

Holloway will be the only player playing minutes who is under 6’6”.

If Biz is not with the team, who do you see as the 2 guard? The traditional shooting guard spot. We have lots of wing types, but combo guards? Seems a bit worrisome to put that spot/pressure on a possible, young reclassification. Anything left in the portal?

I like the optimism but unless we get Holloway back I just don’t see that yet.

Watching this playoff game tonight I really think Amari can play like Dylan Harper. He isnt as polished with the ball in his hands, but physically I see a lot of the same traits.

I think Garrison is going to be a borderline all american in our system. Hes perfect. He's a much better shooter than anyone realizes. I think he shots 35% on volume this year.

edit: Also, last year when Philon was out, we had 2 of our 3 best offensive games. He was a truly great player, but the ball had a tendency to stick to him. I think Allen is going to be a terrific point guard.
