I've been a HUGE GB supporter. However, dude is not creative. Is not great at marketing and is starting to become a liability. Other SEC teams are kicking our arse when it comes to marketing, jersey patches, NIL funds, etc.
Dude needs to buckle up and change or GTFO. He needs to adapt to the NIL age. He is GREAT at raising funds prior...... lacking with NIL, now, though.

You want him to sell off future revenue to private equity like LSU?
I kind of appreciate him taking a measured approach and not rushing into anything while we see if this Save College Sports Act passes.
The money will be there if we decide we have to get desperate. I appreciate him not being in a rush to sell us out to the first bidder

Do we or do we not have Saban on the Alabama payroll? If we do, someone answer WHAT IS HE DOING? Our admin nor coaches seem to be using him for anything. I heard he was living in Florida. So we used him so little he just left? You got Saban on payroll and don't use him? Has to be the biggest dropping of the ball ever. And this goes back to when he retired from coaching.

He’s an ambassador. Hes basically retired but he does odd and end things with fundraising. But more than anything his position is a way to just keep him associated with our university as a thank you for the greatest run in major U.S. sports history. We’re paying him 500k for 6 championships. It’s a bargain.

How do you know what he does behind the scenes. Even his latest commercial he says "let's roll."
He bought a beach front house in S Florida when he retired. I doubt he spends much time at any of his 3 houses. I wouldnt be surprised if he sold one of the lake houses.

LSU had one good game, they have 11 left so let’s stop overreacting. However, Byrne does deserve criticism, mostly over scheduling. Why he scheduled difficult games against OSU, Notre Dame, or even FSU is beyond me. It was clear years ago that the way to go is to schedule a middle tier ACC/Big13 team + 3 cupcakes (back when the SEC was 8 games). We did that for a while during the Saban era when we opened against Duke and Louisville.

Given that probably none of us here know what GB is doing with funding and NIL, it’s a bit knee jerk to imply he needs to be fired.
For all we know, he’s frantically working for additional funding. People forget that we have no billionaire alums like Phil Knight (Oregon) or Mark Cuban (Indiana). We have some wealthy alums who are generous but no one in those guys league.
We are apparently also somewhat hamstrung with the deal UA made with Learfield regarding patch money. I don’t know the details or who made that deal but I keep hearing this. Fact is, we may possibly be legally hamstrung by that.
You may be looking at LSU and how they’ve gone nuts getting all these good players in the portal and thinking why can’t we do that. They have owner of Raising Cane’s chicken bankrolling them and another rumor I’d heard that they’re state legislature had diverted funding intended for Children’s Hospital of Louisiana to LSU’s NIL funding.
I don’t know if that’s true but if it is, I would be ashamed and embarrassed to be an LSU fan. Taking away funding for children who are deathly ill for FOOTBALL. (!?!?). That’s beyond horrible. I hope and pray the Alabama Legislature never stoops that low.
I guess my point is, Byrne can’t just make money appear out of thin air. Give him time.

I think this is example of the real problem with the Alabama AD. We seem to sign bad deals that come back to bite us in the arse. That’s not really a Greg Byrne problem though because most of my examples span multiple administrations.

Byrne’s dad was an AD I believe. He may just legitimately not be well suited for this era of administration. It’s just hard to know for sure.

I think GB excels at pre-NIL. I’ve been on the bandwagon for awhile. I started a thread in the spring about how well he is doing. It’s ok to jump off the bandwagon when one feels the need to.
If we could get a real business savvy Asst AD to do the marketing/business deals that’d be great

The fact so many schools are signing branding deals and within the decade college football jerseys are apt to look like a nascar driver’s jump suit tells me that most schools in America don’t have mega-donors either.
What I hope is this conservative approach from our AD is carried through in our NIL war chest’s investments. I think the thing that is going to lead to a second round of regulatory action on college athletics is when schools/collectives fail to make payroll due to a recession or depression that submarines investments and makes the NIL war chest insolvent.

You guys are over-reacting. Let the man work. For "AD" type duties, GB has been on fire. Bama doesn't have a Mark Cuban type alum so we're going to have to get creative. I do agree with the thought that he may hire a "marketing" type assistand AD that can think outside of the box.
And as far at Saban's involvement, let the man enjoy his retirement. He damn sure earned it. Alabama has to figure out life after Saban and the sooner we do that, the better.
The Learfield contract thing is interesting. There are enough major manufacturers in Alabama to sink our teeth into a major contribution for a patch. Surely someone out there knows the meat and potatoes of that deal. And, that would have had to had multiple layers of administration eyes on it, not just Byrne's.

just think if we increased white space between red striping on our pants….then load up with patches down the whole pants leg. Imagine the money we would make.
With that being said….You can do patching nicely.
Adidas new deal with Tennessee looks great. Jerseys look the best they ever have. They also brought in the checkerboard rear bumper and the Vol Star logo on the front bumper. They are incorporating a shite ton of tradition while making seemingly great business decisions. Also, Adidas is being creative in their offering.
Nike stock is tanking bc they put out fricking GARBAGE. -80%+ from all time highs. Nothing looks good. They frick up everything and not creative. Those assholes are going to be removed from S&P 100 index.
They went woke, got complacent, maybe govt money dried up, make junky arse shite, riding the Jordan brand for 35 years, etc. See ya bitches.

To be fair, he's working overtime to get this madness that forced him to retire in check.
