I'm almost certain alabama was one of the teams trying to get Drake Maye to transfer.

No one knew Simpson wasn’t gonna work out.

It’s like how when Barnett turned out to be a fraud we were stuck with Hurts a few years too early.

You'll never convince me this wouldn't be a better team right now if we'd gone with Simpson from the beginning.

Simpson is NOT ready and may never be. Tries to do too much with the football he'd throw it to the other team even more than Milroe, and with the lack of OLine play he would be on the shelf by now.

The problem with both is their unwillingness to take what the defense gives them. Yesterday Milroe threw into triple coverage for a 30 yard attempt when at 10 yards was a wide open running back in the same line of sight. Simpson is the same

Makes me really question the development they were receiving under BOB.

The interesting thing is Maye is playing front of home crowds that are largely empty in the lower bowl despite having a legitimate conference and national title contender. NIL payday couldn’t get him to come play at a school with better overall talent and more fan engagement because he is a legacy athlete at his current school.

Sucks for us but a positive note for anyone who cares about the sport overall.

Maybe Bill O'Brien did a bad job at developing future QB talent and recruiting... We are dealing what he sewed. Now, Rees doesn't seem qualified to build an offensive that can do much more than run up the gut and throw it deep.

One read QB was not looking for anyone else.

Based on what, exactly?

When Alabama went and got Buchner at the last moment it was crystal clear that we were not confident with any QB on the roster. After 7 games, we see why.
Milroe is the one-eyed Jack among the blind. Simpson is the one who has failed us, so far. He should have emerged as the star he was in HS by now.

It’s hard to say much on Simpson because we don’t really ever let backups sling it. We could have a whole quarter to do some passes and instead we dump the ball on some Ronnie Clark level back for three drives

2014 Coker: 59 attempts
2017 Tua: 53 attempts (pre Georgia)
2019 Mac: 32 attempts (Pre Tua injury)
2020 Bryce: 22 attempts
2022 Milroe: 53 attempts, 34 without A&M

Unless we’re blowing everyone out by 40, the backups might get one total game of attempts in a single season.

Saban was playing milroe this year no matter what. Just like he did jalen hurts for a whole year minus one half with his back against the wall. If Simpson had got all the game reps and practice reps as milroe I would tell you we at least have a multiple read QB. He wouldn’t be any worse than milroe on rushing yards either

Yeah, the Milroe running angle is silly and I’ve said it a handful of times on here. Buchner had 400 yards of rushing his freshman year and is the best dual threat we really have in terms of legs/vision + operating RPO. Simpson has similar speed and could probably operate in the same manner. Milroe’s the most athletic but he’s just not there mentally

The Jalen has legs argument is pretty weak and he’s arguable our worst runner efficiency wise

Won’t debate that but BOB was able to sprinkle in some designed QB runs with Milroe last year in the Arkansas and Texas A&M games. Milroe also had some success in off script plays. He seems more hesitant this year. Looking for the bigger play in the passing game.

Saban will also be starting Milroe in 2024 no matter what. This will be a two year debacle.

After the A&M game last year, it should’ve been priority #1 to go and get an elite QB. We knew what we had in Milroe and any hope that Simpson was going to be immediately ready to be SEC-caliber QB was just that…hope.

In the current CFB environment with the portal & NIL, we should’ve been in prime position to get someone. Especially considering our recent track record with QBs.
