McKinnley Jackson updates visit schedule (BamaOnLine | segments)
quote:

McKinnley Jackson is one of the most sought after recruits remaining in the 2020 class. The 4-star DT from Lucedale (MS) George County has visits left to take this month before announcing his final decision on Feb. 5.

Jackson, who's already officially visited Alabama and Auburn in the fall, had visits set for LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M in that order the next three weekends. On Wednesday, Jackson told BamaOnLine that one of those trips is no longer planned. "Ole Miss is off," Jackson said.

With new offers from Georgia and Oregon in the last six weeks, will another program get that Jan. 24-26 slot? "No, I’m just gonna sit home and get ready for my next official visit," Jackson replied. The Mississippi native had previously said he might take some unofficial visits, potentially back to Alabama or to see Georgia. We'll see if those end up coming to fruition.

UPDATE 1/16: Jackson will now officially visit LSU on Jan. 24-26, per Geaux247's Shea Dixon. The Ole Miss visit is still no longer expected to happen.

We're still very much in it for Agiye Hall and Mario Williams. I'd be very surprised if we didn't land at least 1 of them. The staff knows that they need to land at least 2 WR's who can be difference makers and have the ability to play from day 1. My guess is this class will have 3-4 WR's. We should give the staff the benefit of the doubt, as they have hit a home run in last 3 cycles at our greatest position of need (2018-Secondary, 2019-DL, 2020-LB). Playing time won't be an issue, as we'll be losing Smitty and Waddle.

Bama is in a good spot with Agiye Hall, but OU leads for Mario Williams.

Yeah I agree there is a reason we went hard after all those other receivers. Really wish we could have landed one of those elite guys

I really thought we'd flip Jarrett. But, if he's dumb enough to pick MD over the opportunity he had at Bama, maybe it's a blessing that he did.

Alabama Football: Najee Harris back as focus turns to roster management

With the quiet news coming out of a Najee Harris return, the Alabama football staff can turn attention to roster management and making numbers work.

Without any fanfare, there are conformed reports Najee Harris will forego NFL early entry for another Alabama football season. That is welcome news for a Crimson Tide offense needing to surround Mac Jones (QB competition will be open) with as many explosive weapons as possible.

Gone to the NFL Draft are Jedrick Wills, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III and, of course, Tua. Among Najee, Devonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, a healthy Trey Sanders, Jahleel Billingsley and Mac’s arm, Steve Sarkisian has plenty of returning, explosive weapons.

2020 recruiting is not complete. 13 new players have enrolled early. Nine more signed for summer enrollment. The Crimson Tide has four more verbal commitments. At one point it was anticipated the 2020 class would become 28 players and the numbers above total 26. It has been widely discussed, one of the four commits, Jayson Jones only has a blueshirt offer. The other three either have academic obstacles or are listening to and in the case of Javon Baker, visiting other schools.

Najee Harris, Alex Leatherwood and Devonta Smith deciding to return makes the 85 scholarship limit harder to achieve. So the 2020 class may be 26-27, rather than 28. The best guess is no more than four more players will be added in February.

The annual, difficult issue of roster management always stresses Alabama football fans. Even buying into the commonly used phrase, “Nick always makes the numbers work” does not allay all concern. He does make them work, but this year his task is tougher than usual.

Without going through all the calculations, it appears roster management must include at least six more players moving to other programs. One, running back Jerome Ford, has already used the new transfer rules to move to Cincinnati.

Before projecting others who may choose transfer, a quick note on roster totals. There were strong indications this time last year both Paul Tyson and Will Reichard did not take athletic scholarships to join the Crimson Tide. We presume that information was and is correct.

Who might six more exiting players be? We have roster knowledge but no inside information. Our best guess is two offensive linemen will transfer. The likely candidates are Scott Lashley and Hunter Brannon. What Scooby Carter finally does is unpredictable, but another secondary guy like Eddie Smith or Daniel Wright could look for a new school, starting chance. With all the new linebackers coming in, Markail Benton, Jaylen Moody and Jarez Parks might opt for more playing time elsewhere. It also appears Skyler DeLong would be best served by a fresh start at another school. Among those nine names, it is difficult to imagine more than three or four sticking with the Tide.

We wish only the best to the young men mentioned as potential transfers. Annual shuffling of rosters has almost turned into constant turnover in the era of college football free agency.

Author is wrong on some stuff -- such as Scooby, Tyson, Reichard and Jayson Jones. Scooby is staying. Tyson and Reichard received voluntary withdrawal replacement scholarships which didn't count against the yearly 25 limits, but they do count toward the 85 total counters limit. The talk of Jayson Jones having a blueshirt offer isn't quite correct because regular blueshirting isnt really possible anymore with the relatively new signings limit rules. It's more likely that Jones' offer is actually for a voluntary withdrawal replacement scholarship. To be eligible for one, the player can't sign an NLI and must join the team as a walkon first, which can be done for a brief miniterm (e.g., winter, spring-1, -2, summer-1, -2).

Also, I don't see why he didn't list Owens and Randolph as two more OLs who might transfer since they'd likely be able to grad transfer and not have to sit out a year in-residence. Also, Brannon might be a candidate for a medical hardship scholarship.

I agree with him on Moody, Smith, DeLong, Brannon and Lashley. Add Parker to that list.

Man that 2018 class was complete shite outside of about 5 players.

So does that mean we're out of it for Collins from Bastrop, TX?

Bama has had a strong interest in DE Jay Hardy for a good while but he hasn't really reciprocated it much.

With Jones-Bell you also need to look at fit. With his speed and thick legs he is a natural fit in our offense. Can be a threat from day 1 at WR as he should be dangerous on those slants. Can break tackles with his leg strength with enough speed to take it to the house

Nope. Tough pull, but Bama is not out of it.

I'm no mathematician, but just taking a quick glace it appears the 2019 class already has a good many more combined starts than the 2018 class.

Guess they can't all be hits. I apoplogize for telling people at the time that it wasn't as bad as people were making it out to be.

At least we won the Natty that year. I'd take another Natty in turn for a less than spectacular class.

Story looks like a great talent but his show off moves after making a play will not cut it at Bama. The first time he does something like that and draws an unsportsmanship penalty Saban will rip him a new one.
