100% Optimistic. But why spend huge money on salaries and nothing to preserve roster?

We are paying debore and staff $20,000,000 a year indefinitely. Why not a similar one time payment to preserve the most talented roster in the country?

The school can't make direct payments like that.

Because bought players on a caste/bidding system are not good teammates. Look at A&M. Watch the drama that Texas is about to have. Do yall really think its gonna be smooth sailing in Austin when you have transfers making more $$ than the guys who signed there and paid their dues.

This is DeBoers team now. Not Saban’s. Let the man have a chance and do it his way.

Good point. Has there ever been one of these teams built primarily through the portal that won at the highest level?

Yep, but it does make you wonder about a complete lack of a plan for when CNS retired.

We should have accumulated a crap ton of NIL money knowing that this day was gonna come, knowing the rules are what they are, so we could do something like an across the board increase and also a lump sum payment to stay. But no…we have Byrnes going on the radio taking about something called “Yeah Alabama” and it’s the first time I’ve heard of it. And it looks like some half-assed website run by 2 dudes who just ate BBQ. Meanwhile, Bond gets a Lambo. Honestly I’m shocked they didn’t give him and Aston Martin.

But we just assumed all of these kids loved Alabama.

I don’t buy that our NIL is as uncompetitive as people are saying.

I’m a basketball fan, but we’re not landing 3 McDonald’s All Americans without dropping a significant bag. Kids aren’t coming for the basketball program’s facility or tradition.

Then do it however you can, however it’s done around the country.

I’m glad the board is finally coming around to what I was saying earlier in the week that WE HAD NO PLAN.

It’s unbelievable to me that Saban didn’t sit the core of the team down and pay them to lead the team through this transition and into next season.

THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERED WAS KEEPING THE MESSAGE POSITIVE AND CONSISTENT AND KEEPING THE CORE GROUP OF GUYS TOGETHER.

I’ve said all week that everyone will realize at some point that we had no plan. In the days of these new rules, you simply can’t retire on a whim without a plan if you want your team to stay intact.

The rules are abysmal and have caused all of this. And the transfers would have happened regardless. But not as many.

Maybe in the long term.

But these guys were already a team.

You have to do literally everything you can to bring the core group together, create a strong message, and incentivize them to get on board with the new era.

We had no plan.

We all believed Saban would hold it together. Where is he I wonder?

As long as the current administration along with the collective maintains the idea that equal pay keeps the team together. Which clearly they have, then the roster will get gutted, which it is.

Have to see how CKD recruits the roster moving forward, knowing the equal pay situation.

Guys before took less money but still good money to play for the GOAT. Now they are leaving for a bigger pay day.

Doesnt seem like it. By all accounts, these guys were already making life changing money and they left their "team" because the money was more important

No you dont. When you start getting into bidding wars, you create a caste system which will never be a good thing for 18-21 year olds.
