Tony the Landshark is the product of SJWs, political correctnesss, and for righteousness for the sake of change. Bottom line is, if Ole Miss wants to erase its perceived tie to the Old South -Civil War past- than it needs to change its “Rebel” name as well. The Landshark was nothing more than gimic that was started by the defense 6-7 years ago. The defense could have very easily started making a hand gesture- with both hands-mimicking the clawing of a lion or large predatory cat, and we would have a lion head.

To me, that is the most embarrassing part of this whole debacle. It would be one thing to just do a total re-brand based on some traditional or commonly-recognized symbol that unifies the university community or the state of Mississippi. Instead, they threw all their chips in on a fricking flash-in-the-pan nickname that one of their defensive units invented (something that LOTS of teams do). It would be like if LSU had re-branded their entire athletics brand as "The Bandits" back in the 60s, or if Virginia Tech re-branded as "The Lunch Pails." The whole situation reeks of insecurity, division, lack of leadership, lack of a unified community, and an utter failure to preserve tradition and identity.

Oh my gosh. There are no words to describe how low this brand has sunk. Yes, Ole Miss is a brand and it has hit the bottom of the Marianas Trench. Cue the music, Colonel Reb is cryin....Change the colors, change the fight song, change everything because this is worse than the worst high school in the worst league in the worst state in the country. Can't get worse than this. There are octogenarian sports leagues playing dominoes that have more clarity and sincerity than this once honorable icon. Perhaps I should tell you what I really think?
