Or... when the plate meeting happens before the game. Teams are warned they will not argue balls and strikes. If he kept his mouth shut he wouldn't have been tossed. He is a pompous douche.

Really. He wasn't arguing balls and strikes. He never called the umpire a name. He never even said that the call was horrible. Ump needs to go get a massage or something. This is BS, the NCAA knows it but they have to back up their umpire. Welcome to the fight against the Man, kid.

Come on Tampa. Most pitchers are gonna be upset over not getting that call. That’s a horrible call then this kid has to miss games ... I’m sure this kid and his family have their arse off to get to this level and then have it took away because that ump is blind and has thin skin.... total BS

NCAA is such an archaic beast. Excited for the day that it ceases to exist.

I honestly don't even know what purpose they serve anymore

Looks like that ump needs to take a 98 mph fastball straight to the nuts with the catcher pulling the glove away and ducking at the last minute. Then the catcher should say, "man, that's HORRIBLE."

Yeah, that's bad. And I'm someone who's usually very big on players keeping their cool and respecting umps/refs. It would be one thing if the pitcher had made some sort of gesture at the ump, or used some colorful language. But just to express some frustration in a very heated and pivotal point of the game...and get ejected and tossed for four games is bonkers. The only way I could defend the ump's actions is if he had given a warning to that same player earlier in the game.

Wow. So he won’t be active for four game. Harsh rule. Probably ended his playing days for 2019.

I'm ok with booting him for "unsportsmanlike conduct" even though the call does seem horrible to me. I definitely think a 4 game suspension is ridiculously harsh.

I’ve never heard of anything as dumb as four games for something like this. They may get to Omaha anyway with their weak Matchup in the Supers but to lose him for a couple games in Omaha might kill their season. Not cool and that rule needs to be looked at by someone no doubt.

That was weak. In that situation, it could have impacted the game. Emotions come out during competition and for the ump to call it in that situation is bush league.

A suspension of 2 games per word seems harsh... wonder if the NCAA will overturn/shorten the suspension

Of course they want. The NCAA cover self first, worries about athletes last.

NCAA umpires are really bad. Some worse than others. Many lack a consistent strike zone while others look to make overly dramatic gestures even it means making a wrong call. The difference between a Major League umpire and a college umpire is like night and day.

The NCAA is ruing college athletics. The officials in all sports are horrible.

The four games is brutal. Once again, the NCAA shows why they're the best in college athletics.

NCAA sucks. SEC, ACC, and Big 10 should form their own league and keep all the money.

Agree, the days of the P5 conference needing the NCAA are long gone. The NCAA needs the P5 much worse. The NCAA should continue to govern the smaller divisions and lesser D1 conferences while the P5 flips them the double bird and moves on.

Could you imagine if that happened at a SEC stadium in the same situation?

If the rule is there, you play with fire if you choose to step over the line. The rule doesn't allow for interpretations regarding how far you can question an umpire's calls. Also, we have no context of how this all came down: did the umpire get an earful from Louisville all game long, and he had had enough? Who knows....
