WAFB has obtained the final email that Brian Kelly sent to LSU after he was fired on Sunday, October 26.

In the email, Kelly confirmed his termination, thanked LSU, and stated that he was open to negotiating his buyout.

The email, which WAFB obtained through a public records request, was sent to Scott Woodward, as well as Verge Ausberry, Julie Cromer, and Austin Thomas.
quote:

Scott and team,

Sending a quick note to confirm that following my termination during our meeting today, I will return all LSU materials in my possession as required by my contract. Let me know if it’s better for me to clean out my office, or if you would prefer to pack everything up and send it to me. I assume HR will be in touch regarding any other housekeeping matters out there, but let me know if you need anything else from me in the meantime.

As we discussed in our meeting, I’m open to your desire to reach a settlement of what’s owed to me under the contract, although of course it would have to make sense financially.

Despite your decision to let me go today, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to lead this program over the last four years and wish you all the best going forward.

Best,

Brian

P.S.: Scott, feel free to use my email as a template. You can change the names addressed when you forward your version to your former superiors.

Any settlement would be fine for him since he also made his 10mm for the previous four years.

If he gets a 27mm buyout, his four years still averaged 16.75million per year.

Thats livin’ right there.

1. Who at LSU leaked this email? It seams unethical to leak something like this.

2. When LSU made the contract, no one was holding a gun to their head. They owe him the money.

Why wouldn’t this be FOYIA? He is a public employee of a public institution. It is all open. WTF - you don’t think LSU didn’t provide email and text messages that allowed that reporter to break the Title IX story? Not all of that was attorney-client privilege.

It wasn't leaked, they received it from a FOIA Request since LSU is a public university.

Some of you are idiots so it isn’t “shocking” what you just stated above. You have zero clue what a shite show LSU was in and the logistical nightmare plus image shite that he had to manage through. From Greg Brooks to everything else, you have to be careful with everything because of how our society is today. Uninformed and misinformed like you.

It's easy for me to say, but I think I'd have some pride and think, "Ok. I'm didn't do the job and am not doing the job going forward. I did not and will not earn that money. Contract or not, I need to do what's right with my conscience." But, no one does that and he won't either.

I mean LSU didn’t have to give him the contract…what obligation does he have to not want his money

Probably more accommodating than I would have been. However, he made a strong point that he is ready to cash out!

Wut?

Typing professionally with millions in the balance isn’t what I would call an example of class. Anyone with half a brain and lawyer with a pulse can send similar…

I doubt his contract had a clause in the buyout that states “if terminated, your final email must be cordial.”

LSU owes him the money whether he is a prick or a saint.

I agree. Also seems pretty unprofessional for LSU to leak that email
