A new video from Attorney Matt Ory, who represents former Kyren Lacy and his family, shows that the former LSU receiver was 72.6 yards behind a fatal crash that killed a 78 year-old man last December.

In the video, you can see the wreck, followed by Lacy's green Dodge Charger approaching the accident from behind.

Per Yahoo:
quote:

Following the accident, Lacy was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle.

“At the time of impact, he’s 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the time of impact. Keyword — behind the vehicles. That is not how this story was ever painted. Never,” said Ory in the interview.

On Jan. 10, 2025, the LSU football star was accused of negligent homicide after a crash on Highway 20. A few days later, Lacy turned himself in to Lafourche Parish authorities. He was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle. He was released after posting a $151,000 bail.

By February 2025, Lacy denied causing the crash. Ory shared the statement on his behalf saying, “At no time did Mr. Lacy’s vehicle strike the rear of Mr. Hall’s vehicle, nor did any of the vehicles Mr. Lacy passed collide with his,” Ory stated. “After the collision occurred in front of Mr. Lacy, he cautiously went around the vehicles after passage was safe.”

On April 12, Lacy was found dead after what investigators believed was a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police chase in Harris County. Reports said Lacy fired a gun into the ground after an argument. Lacy fled the area and crashed in the 25900 block of Aldine Westfield.

Why did it take so long to release this?

Because the prosecution probably tried to withhold it after knowing what was on it.

Dude you dont know what you are talking about. The da was likely going to show all of it to the grand jury so they would have been able to return a no true bill and the charges would be dismissed. The da didnt make the arrest.

Stop saying falsehoods. The prosecutor didnt bring the charges. They were only going to show the evidence to the grand jury since he had already been arrested. They dont make the decision to arrest. They would have shown the evidence to a grand jury and it likely would have been presented in a way that a no true bill was returned since they saw there wasnt sufficient evidence to support the charges.

“The 2025 NFL Draft took place from April 24 to 26 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.”
“On April 12, Lacy was found dead after what investigators believed was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
“On Jan. 10, 2025, the LSU football star was accused of negligent homicide after a crash on Highway 20.“
This young man felt like he had no future. Falsely accused and his NFL draft dreams completely shattered. Anyone that lied and manipulated this tragedy need to feel the full consequences of their actions.

I can't comprehend when prosecutors withhold or hide evidence so that they can cross off another mark in the "win" column while an innocent person life is ruined. This seems to happen way too often.
user avatar
diehard241 month
Well it didnt happen in this case? The prosecuters dont make the arrest. They werent taking this case to trial. They realized the arrest was not supported by the charge so they were going to present that to the grand jury so they could return a no true bill and the charges would be gone

Honest question, because I know nothing about how this process works…

But if the prosecutor knew the charges wouldn’t stick in a grand jury (and from what it sounds like you are claiming, they didn’t want the charges to stick), then why wouldn’t the prosecutor just drop the charges? Is there something that forces them to go to grand jury? Can they not choose to not pursue a case? What is the upside of dragging the process out through a grand jury decision if the result they both want and know they will get can be achieved far quicker and far cheaper by just dropping the charges?

Not knowing anything about this legal framework, I’m sure there is a piece I’m missing. So a little description on the process/tradeoff of grand jury decisions vs dropping charges would be very helpful.

Thanks!

I mean didn’t the other driver that survived in the accident give their detailed report of what happened which shouldn’t have mentioned anything about a green car? WTF
user avatar
Omada1 month
That person lied to protect themselves and falsely incriminated Lacy in the process. They were driving too fast, likely not paying attention, and about to hit the truck in front of them, so they swerved into the other lane and killed Mr. Hall.
user avatar
Tigrdynasty1 month
Except that the green car was coming at them in their lane after just passing 4 vehicles at once at a high rate of speed in a nonpassing zone?

This is one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen in my 45 years on Earth. Whomever implicated him needs to be held culpable - criminally, civilly, or both. This is absolute bullshite and I refuse to even believe something like this could’ve happened today. That person or persons literally ruined an innocent man’s life. Literally. I am so disgusted with our legal system.

Watch the full video to be disgusted. The trooper, along with other things, tried to falsify the witness statement of the person in front of the woman who hit Mr. Hall. The DA had to discover the trooper's report used to make the arrest was not trustworthy.
user avatar
Tigrdynasty1 month
No he didn't. All he told was to make sure he wrote down everything he had previously stated verbally when he gave the officer a statement. You're making up what you want to be true. Nothing about that interaction has anything to do with falsifying

Reading the comments, I just want to say that most of our posters are absolute idiots. You people are blaming the DA when the attorney is reading the DA's own investigation report saying Lacy was not responsible and should not be tried or charged. Lacy killed himself before the report was released (2 days before if I recall correctly). The state trooper and his terrible investigation are at fault here, and fools are at fault for crucifying Lacy before waiting for the facts to come out. And now, instead of learning your lesson, y'all are crucifying the DA without the full facts. For once, please shut up.

Yeah good catch. He was accused of reckless driving by crossing center lane and causing the crash.

From news article at time of crash:

“ According to a news release from Louisiana State Police on Friday, Lacy was allegedly driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on Louisiana Highway 20 and "recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated no-passing zone."

"As Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge," a Louisiana State Police news release said.”

That makes no sense, how can the accident happen in front of him if his reckless driving causes the accident. He clearly did not pass the until after accident had already happened. They are now trying to cover their arse by blaming a deceased person. That is even more vile.

Police Detectives are just as bad. They have tunnel vision and if someone mentioned that a green car caused the accident, they laser focus on that and nothing will stop them, even the truth.

user avatar

Clearly, you either know people, or are in, the DA’s office. Quit shifting the blame to the officers alone. The entire system is at fault. The DA has just as much say in what is prosecuted. The officers did a terrible investigation, later confirmed by the DA (likely way too late because like every attorney I work with, they wait until the 11th hour to do anything). Their actions, and inactions, ruined Lacy’s life. They’re all culpable!
