The Spurs saved us from having to watch another Thunder game this season. I think I’m forced to root for them for that reason.

Most people, including me, don't care that Bobby got punched in the mouth.

You don’t care that the Sheriff walked up to a citizen and attacked him?

That’s a pretty wild take.
Late July through late August is the worst month for sports, especially this year.
About a month.

I was offered a job in Fort Worth at a healthcare system that I was interning at during my senior year, but didn’t want to move at the time. I’m glad I didn’t take it because I pivoted careers about a year later and it’s been the best decision I’ve made for my career.

Louisiana's trajectory has been downward since at least the days of Huey Long, and that's due to the voters. Their concern isn't their careers, it's making sure they can go see their cousin in Opelousas every other weekend, and have a boat that is worth more than their doublewide to go fishing every weekend, etc. They will turn a blind eye to political corruption, put up with public schools that are utter trash, and make excuses for anything and everything. But culture!

Meh, if you make decent money you can have a solid quality of life in Louisiana.

And it’s funny that you think people should value their careers over their family.

Because it's a chain means it sucks?

I felt like it was pretty clear that he was lumping all national chains together.
Weird to me that no healthcare organizations are listed.
28k in 2010 straight out of school. Only stayed at that job for 10 months, changed jobs, and then 5 months later I transferred internally. I was promoted at my new job about 6 months after that. So, I went from 28k to 70k in about 21 months and felt pretty comfortable after that.

Those 10 months making a 28k salary were pretty depressing though

Lack the common sense to know how to behave in civil society.

Right, I’m sure there also isn’t a rule that says you can’t strip down naked and walk across the stage on your hands either, but some things should just be inferred.

Again, nothing inherently wrong indoctrination. I’m not sure I’ve ever met anyone who thought we should leave children as ideological blank slates until they reach adulthood

I’m sure most “conservative” people would never even bring up homosexuality to their kids, if it wasn’t presented by some outside source. You think these people randomly bring up homosexuality and tell their kids it’s”bad”?
quote:

You want to be able to indoctrinate your children without outside interference. Put another way, you’re not opposed to indoctrination; you simply want to have a monopoly on it in regard to your children. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but it doesn’t magically make it not indoctrination.

I think the word you’re looking for is “parent” not “indoctrinate”.

If it wasn’t for outside attempts at indoctrination, I doubt I would ever bring up homosexuality to my child at all.

try not to judge but i judge people who bring tablets to resturants. I get it, sometime i am jealous of them having a peaceful dinner, but they won't learn how to behave in public if they are watching cocomelon everytime you go out with them.

We have a 5 year old and a 1 year old, going out to dinner is hard at this time (only due to the 1 year old), so we just limit how often we and where we go with her.

Our 5 year old has only ever looked at a personal screen to FaceTime with family members from our phones. She’s been on 10+ hour road trips with us and plays with an etch a sketch, a tonie box, or coloring books

If you don’t think having your retirement already funded changes the way any relatively ordinary person looks at work and their financial obligations, you’re not thinking. This opens up significant discretionary spending for anyone.

You wouldn’t still contribute to your retirement enough to get your company’s match? I know I sure as hell would, I’m not fond of passing on free money.

It implies that your life is immediately changed. We both agree that you can retire earlier and much more comfortably, but for your average 40-50 year old, 600k isn’t enough to cause an immediate 180 in daily living.

Right, it could potentially change my life in 10+ years, but that 600k isn’t changing my life today. And who knows if I’ll even live to see the day that it would change my life.

Im 39 years old. $600k cash would be an absolutely life changing sum rn, would open up so many avenues we dont currently have available. I say that despite the fact we already have the house and cars paid off.

I’m not sure if I should say “I’m sorry” or “Congratulations”

The ability to pay off your house

If I was given 600k, one of the last things I would think to do would be to pay off a mortgage at 2.75%.

I have no car loans.

I would just invest the money. And yeah, I guess it would let me retire a bit earlier than expected, but it wouldn’t change my current life at all.
It depends, busy weeks, probably 30 hours, non busy weeks, probably 15.

I guess it depends on what you call work, too. A lot of what I have to do is research on how to fix an issue, so maybe you can bump those numbers up by 5 hours or so.

Just got out of mine, it’s been a pool, beer, and fried fish day so far. But it’s about to be whiskey time.

Thats life changing money for a lot of folks.

600k?

I mean I guess I could retire a few years early, but is that really life changing?
