Former LSU coach Les Miles was dead wrong about Ja'Marr Chase.

According to Chase, Miles told him he couldn’t play receiver when he was coming out of high school and that he wanted him to play cornerback at LSU...

Les was probably correct in that he couldn't play receiver for him. hard to be a receiver when you don't throw the ball

Then why did Miles recruit so many WRs? That is mismanagement of the roster in itself.

Les Miles once thought Jefferson was a QB, actually he thought it for 4 years

Remember when Dak Prescott didn’t come to lsu because Les miles wanted him as a fullback? Just imagine if we had him with our 2012 squad thats a natty right there without a doubt!!!

Les knew that if he could light the fire in Chase to be the best WR he could be, then Les had done his strong job.... Les Miles was playing 4 dimensional checkers while others played chess.

He told Dak he would be great TE.

So did every other Coach that recruited Dak w/the exception of Mullins at MSU!

There is no need for a WR in toss dive right, toss dive left.

Not really surprising. He recruited Dak Prescott as a TE! Said his release wasnt quick enough. I'd say he missed on this one as well!

Which is effin hilarious Miles thinking he knew QBs

And Jordan Jefferson's release WAS quick enough? It felt like an eternity between the time Jefferson figured out who he was going to throw to and the time the ball finally left his hand. Les was an idiot when it came to QBs.

Dak went to MS St, so it's not like there were any elite programs that thought he was a legit QB prospect. Not saying Miles was a genius or anything, just always thought this example was a little overblown

Les Miles didn't understand the concept of a forward pass, so this isn't surprising. If I were Chase, I would take these comments from Miles as a complement!

Another idiotic statement by Les. Is anyone surprised?

Are we sure Chase would not have been an elite DB?
user avatar

So he worked harder and got better?

Chase could have played DB and WR at the same time and been all SEC at both

If he had played in miles offense he’s likely flipping burgers now.

Les also recruited RG3 as a safety, not a QB.

So did every other Coach w/the exception of Briles at Baylor (or whoever the BU coach was at the time)!

Les Miles also told Dak he couldn’t be college QB! Les Miles is a fuking idiot!

There is no doubt that if he was forced to, Chase would have excelled at CB also. Certain coaches seem to put more value on CB than WR, I think looking back that Mo Claibourne would have been a better WR than he was at CB. I think Miles and Patrick Peterson talked him into playing CB. But with Miles vision of offense, CB might have been the better choice.

Head coach made a mistake on judging a 16-18 year old kid. That is not new and it happens everyday.

And yet another reason Leslie Edwin is no longer in coaching.

I love Ja’mar but I don’t understand the timeline here. If Miles was fired in September 2016 and Chase started attending LSU in August 2019, was this in 10th grade that this was said?

It's not uncommon for top players to start getting looks by schools around that time. He also probably went to LSU camps.

He said it made him work harder in the offseason. That was good motivation if it didn't exist already.

He came to LSU in 2018. He was getting recruited by Les after his sophmore season. Went to camps too
