Ed Orgeron held his weekly press conference on Monday afternoon and said that Max Johnson will start Saturday vs. Arkansas but backup QB Garrett Nussmeier will play "significant snaps" in the game as well.

Orgeron said both quarterbacks will "split reps 50-50" during practice this week and whoever plays the best on Saturday will stay in the game.

Orgeron also added that he spoke with Nussmeier on Sunday about him possibly burning his redshirt and that the freshman QB was "adamant" about playing. Nussmeier's father, Doug Nussmeier who is the Dallas Cowboys QB coach, spoke with offensive coordinator Jake Peetz and they are all on the same page about him playing.

There's an old saying in football that the most popular guy on the team is the backup quarterback. It's amazing how many folks late last season and through the off-season were talking about Max as Joe Burrow 2.0, saying we should kick Brennan to the curb because Max was the future. Now that they see Max isn't the football god of a QB they thought, they are going onto the Nuss bus saying that "if only we played him, everything would be different". Yall make me lol...for real.

Sure would’ve been nice to see him burn his redshirt against the damn red shirts we just played! We would’ve won with Nuss behind center those 4th quarter drives. Nothing can convince me otherwise.

I'm so glad we're firing this guy

I won't try to convince you otherwise but since you're playing armchair coach convince me they would have won with Nuss.

How could O not talk to him about redshirting before the damn Bama game?

Max is a nice kid and one day he may develop into a quality qb, but the talent disparity between he and Nuss is obvious.

So they never talked to the nuss family in the first place. Last week he said they wanted to retain the redshirt.

Lol wht changed since last week? It never made sense to keep a redshirt this season in the first place

I mean you have one starting quarterback and another family wanting to maintain a red shirt? What the heck? Then you get upset when your son doesn’t get in the game. I am Trippin with a family that dictates when they feel their son can play or not. I’m quite sure the plan was a red shirt before the year started and after getting a little playing time. Sounds good to me. Johnson was getting smacked around has been most of the season susceptible to injury( but not injured) . My gosh 2 dad’s were NFL quarterbacks who have college quarterbacks as sons on the same team, Yikes ! Geaux Tigers

does Orgeron play video games all day or does he actually do anything football related now? I feel like an idiot for liking this man and defending him

And oh look, the redshirt bullshite that I hated and didn't make sense last week when people were perfectly fine with it, is now thrown out the window by all including the head coach...the stupidity of everybody, including the fanbase, astounds me.

Oh yeah, this decision is one week late. I think Nuss could have made a difference in last weeks game especially in 4th quarter when Max errant throws basically cost us a chance to beat the hated gumps. Sucks this decision wasn't made before the gump game.

This place changes when the wind blows, take it with a grain of salt. We all do something besides coach football, what in the hell do any of us know about coaching football. We will continue to post silliness and expect everyone to concur.

I suspect there’s going to be a transfer, Myles Brennan is in the portal would not be surprised if another one decided to also.

It was hard to watch Johnson throw off his back foot to a wide open Bech and the ball sail high. There were severals throws in that 4th quarter where his mechanics completely went out the door. His film after the game aginst bama had to drive even this mediocre staff insane. Might as well give the new staff a good look at the 2 opptions they have.

If it wasn’t already obvious this coaching staff is unqualified...having QB daddy weighing in should convince all this coaching staff needs to go...fast

Parents may have no business weighing in on their kids who play pro ball, but parents weighing in on college players is no surprise.
