Ed Orgeron was on 104.5 ESPN's "Off The Bench" Tuesday morning and talked about Myles Brennan's arm injury that will require surgery and take him out of the starting QB competition.
quote:

"Very unfortunate. You know Myles was competing, he was fighting to be the starting quarterback at LSU, he fought Max, and he had a great spring, and a great summer. Had an unfortunate accident," Orgeron said.

"He's getting operated on this morning. Our prayers are with Myles and his family. His dad, his mom took it hard, I'm sure Myles took it hard. I didn't get to talk to him yet, I called him yesterday, but I'm sure he's very upset, but we're going to follow him all the way through this."

"You know the first thing that Myles' family wanted to know is eligibility left, what is the timeline for him to come back, when can he compete to come back and finish his career at LSU, and you got to appreciate that."
Brennan's injury will make Max Johnson the starter, Orgeron confirmed on Tuesday. Behind Johnson is true freshman four-star QB Garrett Nussmeier and freshman walk-on Matt O'Dowd.
quote:

"Obviously Max is going to be our starter. He's got to have a great camp. The depth chart is etched in sand, and he knows he's got to perform, but I believe in Max just like I believe in Myles. We've got us a great quarterback, a great championship quarterback."

"Garrett's going to have to step up. Garrett's a very talented young man, I'm glad we got him. He's just going to have to learn the offense, step up and be able to take care of the football. He had some unfortunate picks in the spring, but I know he's going to get better with experience," the coach said."

And then Matt O'Dowd, I'm glad we got a walk-on quarterback. He becomes the third-string quarterback, but we've got to keep Max healthy. That's going to be the key."
Orgeron went on to talk about how they need to be careful with Johnson and the play-calling now that the depth at quarterback has taken a hit.
quote:

"It reminds me of 2018 again when we had Joe Burrow and Myles Brennan," Orgeron said.

"We only had two quarterbacks on scholarship and we did very well. There are some things that Max does very well, extends plays with his feet, we're going to let him do those things. There are some things that we can do, some things that we can't do. We'll see... We have to be careful on how we use him, no question."

"The depth chart is etched in sand" but we've "got a great championship quarterback"?

He is obviously saying that there is always competition and the best guy will play. You can be a great quarterback but get entitled and stop competing the way you should. He doesn’t want even the starters to feel they have a guaranteed spot. Stop acting like you don’t understand this.

From the sound of things, it wasn't a football related injury. Hope he didn't wreck his new Ford truck...

I was listening to SEC radio this morning on SiriusXM and a person from the Athletic that covers LSU said it was injured on a fishing trip. No details about how just that it was while fishing.

Don’t we have an NCAA fishing team? (No bullshite) Wow that’s crazy, wonder if any of those fishing players ever sustained an injury? So like is it a high shoulder sprain from reeling in a big one? I’m really just trying to understand this that’s all, not trying for sarcasm whatsoever but this seems kinda fishy that’s all. Feel bad for Myles as he stuck in there and was a true team guy and never considered that portal bs

I hate to say this but it's just time for Myles to move on! It just ain't meant to be at LSU.

You didn't really hate to say that

TommyDaTiger33 months
panzer how do you know he really didn’t hate to say that? If the man said he hated to say it then I believe he hated to say it. Why would he not only take the time to tell us he hated to say it but in fact he actually put it in writing that he hated to say it so I take the man at his word that he hated to say what he said. So there

“Being careful with play-calling” sounds like nails on a chalk board to me

I think it mostly means not running him unnecessarily. I'm sure they'll still be aggressive.

He sucked compared to Max? Compare him to Myles, at least TJ would be healthy.
