It might be a little premature, but CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell recently debated Brian Kelly's hot seat status as he enters his fourth season at LSU.

Kanell said that the main issue is the expectation of the LSU fanbase, compared to schools like Penn State and USC...
quote:

"Those fanbases... have any of them fired more coaches after winning national championships, something Les Miles had and was rattling off nine and ten-win seasons. And it wasn't enough for that fanbase." Kanell said.

"This is more about the fanbase than it is about Brian and the expectations they have in Baton Rouge for their coach."

“If they don’t get to the playoffs, he might not make it after this season,” Kanell said. “I know there’s guaranteed money that comes into place, but again, they did pay Ed Orgeron $17 million not to coach, and he probably has way more than that. But I think this is about a fan base that expects to win national championships. Anything short of that is a disaster. If they make a deep playoff run, I think he's fine. But, if they have another season like that they did last year, on the outside looking in, I think he's under a tremendous amount of pressure, and maybe there will be some rumblings about making a change."

people dont realize how less likely these coaches are to get fired now. before it was no big deal to pony up 40 million, but now that money is used on building a team. so if they fire him after this season that is 40-50 million dollars of money that could be used on players that will be used to fire him

Danny K hates LSU, always has...which who cares. Yes BK is on the hot seat. No, he won't go anywhere this year unless they have a losing record...even then he might not, unfortunately.

Danny Kanell is this generation’s Trev Alberts. Horrible takes, ridiculous bias, and a single brain cell.

He's a dumbass. Miles and Orgeron were fired because the team was either losing 5-6 games a year or in Miles case failed to bring the offense out of the stone age. He's acting like we go through coaches every 2 years when we had 2 coaches fired in an 18 year period.

He’ll be here through at least the next 2 seasons unless a donor steps up to pay the $100 million buyout

And how many national championships does Penn State and USC have in the last 30 years? 1.5?

It's more about the 60-million-dollar buyout fool.

He's owed too much to be on the hot seat. LSU set up to fail with the value of that contract.

I think the stability and momentum he’s brought to the program after Ed imploded are also quite valuable. Obviously not the same as winning (although we’re not doing too shabby there). That said I too want to see this program get a natty.

Rational or not, I don’t think he is wrong about anything he said.

Miles and Orgeron weren’t fired only because they weren’t winning another championship. There were “issues” in other areas that played into it.
LSU means playing for championships. If LSU wasn’t winning Nattys to begin with those coaches would not be know as coaches fired after winning championships.
Since 2003, LSU and Ohio State are the only schools that have won 3 Nattys with 3 different coaches

So, he guesses CBK might have some kind of a buyout? Great journalism there. The only thing he missed was sneaking in an OMB.

The WIN NOW mentality because HCs get paid a lot of money is dumb. BK is like #8 of highest paid college HCs. Of those 8, only 3 have won a national championship.

No sense of urgency with 10yr guaranteed contract. It shows at least 2-3 games a year with lack of preparation, ability to make in game changes and motivate the team!

I agree with them that the playoff bus mentality is unrealistic, but the fact is Kellie is not on the hot seat

If Kelleee loses that first game it will be apocalyptic here.

BK should be fired if he doesn’t at least make the semifinal of the CFP! If history holds true watch this be the year the D finally shows up and the OL is so bad the O costs them the playoffs. Woody should never give a 10yr contract especially with a guy who hasn’t won a Natty!

“Anything less than a national championship is a disaster” is f*cking dramatic! LSU is NOT A&M, Ole Miss, or Missouri. Consistent 9-10 win seasons with bull$hit bowl game is a mediocre season. Period. I clearly remember the Hallman years where that was acceptable and considered a great season. The bar has been raised. It’s playoff or bust.

No one considers the Hallman years acceptable. You sound like you've been hanging out with Kanell

Or bust?

I found the guy with the 60 million-dollar-buyout.
