LSU has announced that Missouri defensive coordinator Blake Baker has been hired as Brian Kelly’s new DC.

Baker will replace Matt House, who was fired on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old coach has been Missouri's defensive coordinator for the past two seasons and recently signed a contract extension in December. The Tigers ranked 25th in total defense this year. Per RockMNation:
quote:

In two seasons with the Tigers, Baker’s defenses ranked 19th and 14th in defensive SP+, respectively. This compared to 2021, when the Tigers finished 97th in SP+ under now San Francisco 49ers DC Steve Wilks. Baker’s defenses came to be known for their havoc-inducing style, dialing up creative blitzes early and often. Baker also coached up defensive backs like Ennis Rakestraw, Kris Abrams-Draine and Jaylon Carlies, all of whom have declared for the NFL draft and are expected to be picked.
Baker, a native of Houston, played football at Tulane and has family ties to Louisiana. He was LSU's linebacker coach in 2021 under Ed Orgeron but was not retained when Brian Kelly was hired.

The Advocate reports that Baker's deal is a three-year contract worth $2.5 million annually.

Kelly still needs to hire a new defensive line coach, cornerback coach and safety coach to round out his defensive staff. Landing Baker was a big step in the right direction. Stay tuned for more hires coming soon.

Excellent hire; have Bo Davis, just need Corey Raymond to top it off.

Scott Woodward doing Scott Woodward things with money and coaches. 1-1.2 million salary to 2.5 million? Man's never has 2.5 million as the floor with coaches moving forward, even for someone like Coach McMahon.

If people haven’t figured out by now Woodward is a clown, they never will.

I believe so. Corey and Kevin Faulk are trustworthy celebrities to the parents of kids that no only play the positioned they coached. Their recruiting influence extended far beyond their positions, in Louisiana and abroad.

Missouri fans & journalists kept jabbering that LSU was a step down or Lateral move. Ridiculous. LSU offers 2.5 mil that ain’t a step down that’s a Cajun Air Boat from a pirogue

Too bad the athletic department did not ask you. They could have had free help from Floyd-America's football genius.

Re-read the article. Baker was a former LB coach under O. He was just hired as Defensive Coordinator.

Got a feeling with Daniels gone, we're going to probably need his defense to help us out and several games.

Help keep that Ole Miss uptempo offense in check

I thought LSU should’ve targeted someone with a little more experience. I was hoping for JIM LEONARD whose defense was very highly regarded when he was a DC. But for recruiting purposes I think BLAKE BAKER is a better fit.

Please realize BLAKE BAKER doesn’t have a lot of experience as a DC. He was the DC in Miami from 19-21 and wasn’t allowed to call game day defense. That role was called by Manny Diaz. His defense there ranked in the 50th percentile. At Missouri he was the DC for 2 years, first year 50th percentile and 2nd year 25th percentile. And this is the guy you want strategizing against NICK SABAN and LANE KIFFIN? I think we could have done much better.
