LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker met with the media after practice on Thursday and discussed the much-needed improvements in the secondary and the group's progress this spring.

Baker applauded the cornerbacks who have grown the most so far...
quote:

“I’ve seen some ups and downs," Baker said. "The one thing I’ll say is that we have guys who are going to attack the football."

"We have done a really good job on the back end, creating turnovers. Sage Ryan sticks out to me; he has had several takeaways this spring. Major Burns has had a really good spring so far."

"The corners have probably grown more than any group during practice. Those corners have gotten much, much better as a unit. I think we have guys playing more in their natural position. I've been pleased with them. We need to continue to grow but I think we have some really good pieces to work with back there. I think we have good depth as well. I've been pleased with that group."

Not having to cover Nabers and Thomas in practice probably helps their confidence more than anything...

This is how you react when our shiny new DC praises a position group that has struggled recently ?

I can only imagine if he'd have said something like, "They're improving but have a long way to go," or even "Our back end is dogs hit, prepare to take the over."

When the man goes out of his way to praise then like that, I doubt it's coach speak. Making assertions like that can really cone back to bite you in the arse and make you look foolish.

It's probably accurate, but you miserable fricks spew negativity, regardless of what the coaches say.

Bunch of sissy boys commenting negatively.

BB can coach...maybe it's a motivational tool, confidence booster.

Such a crazy concept to the dorks who bitch all the time.

Probably helps that they’re not matching up against two high 1st round draft picks and the Heisman-winning QB now. Let’s see how they hold up against SEC competition

Well, sort of hard not to improve when you’re at an absolute 0. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Sage Ryan and Major Burns are the standouts? Lol don’t think that’s a good sign.

I'm torn. I had the same initial reaction as you, but I want them to play great, so I want to believe. LOL

Finally an adult is in the defensive room, who realizes u fit ur scheme to players strengths and not keep doing the same failing scheme week end and week out

No no no, we need to use Perkins as a spy even if Jordan Travis is staying in the pocket and making throws. Then when we play bama we need to not use a spy against Milroe even though he’s torching is with his legs. It’s complicated nfl level stuff I don’t expect anyone to understand.

I hope see our young guys develop more. If they do this defense can really surprise. Hopefully Sage can finally live up to his hype. Burns looked really bad last season but it's kinda odd because if you watched him in the first half of BK's first season he was vital to the secondary. Hopefully he can put all together too. I think our weakness will be DL but maybe they'll surprise too.
