LSU linebacker Harold Perkins is moving to the STAR position for the Tigers in 2025, according to defensive coordinator Blake Baker, who recently spoke with Julie Boudwin on On3.

Perkins has played several positions at LSU since arriving as a five-star freshman in 2022. Most recently, Perkins played middle linebacker in 2024 before suffering a season-ending ACL injury just four games into the season.

Perkins has also played strong-side linebacker, edge, and nickel but has yet to find his permanent position.

The redshirt junior now takes over the hybrid STAR spot that Major Burns held last season.

At the STAR position, Perkins can play on the line, in the box, and coverage, depending on the scheme.

LSU is better with out him. He can not cover receivers. He is not a safety. what is wrong with the LSU coaches.

He will probably be an NFL safety. Might as well start learning the position

So ultimately he winds up in a safety spot, where he should have been all along.

I didn’t see where it said Perkins would be on the edge rushing and pressuring the QB.

Whatever his position was as a freshman is what he needs to play.

Perkins is a tweener with no real position Good athlete who's coming back from a major injury. Hope he's 100% physical and mentally ready.

Not sure how I feel about this. One solid season and hid for two. Burns always hid. Easy to hide and not lose your spot. I’d put him on the edge and let him do one thing.

Was good in 2023 on an absolute shite defense and being started at the wrong position.

Good. This is the best for everyone. Trying to put him at Mike was retarded

Waterboy finally woke up! Sick-em, give Perk the freedom he needs to be effective. This should have been his position from the start. The defense will be improved this year. LSU has a playoff roster. Get to the playoffs and anything can happen. GEAUX TIGERS!

This is a good move. Was expecting that to have taken place last year. Glad they at least make the move for this season.

He isn't big enough to be an edge all the time and would be a weakness against the run. I think this allows him to move around and be effective, using his abilities the best. Should be a big improvement and good fit for him.

Micah Parsons… I’ve said it many times. Dude is a beast!

He is taking over a position (star) that was occupied by our worst (Burns) defender last season. The improvement in run and pass defense will be dramatic. Expect that next year's defense alone will be enough to get us to the playoffs. Pair that with the offensive improvement, and the sky is the limit
