Bo Jackson shared an incredible story during last night's exhibition between the Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be true...
quote:

"I took strike three right down the pipe, and he called me out," Jackson said. "I turned around and gave him a few choice words and he said, 'You're outta here.' I said, 'Thank you.' I went to the locker room - didn't even shower. I put my clothes on, got in my Corvette and went to the hospital."

Jackson then said that was the only ejection of his career.

"Blame it on my daughter. The things we do for our women."
While that story only adds to the legend of Bo Jackson, it turns out there are a lot of flaws with it. Best-selling author Jeff Pearlman revealed that Jackson didn't actually play in a game on July 21, 1990.

quote:

"Bo's daughter Morgan was born on July 21, 1990. Bo says, on that day, he was deliberately tossed from the Royals game against Milwaukee. So, here's the box from that afternoon's Royals game," Pearlman wrote. "You'll notice they didn't play Milwaukee, and that Bo wasn't in the lineup. And maybe you're thinking, 'See! He got thrown out.' Well, nope. Three days earlier, Jackson hurt his shoulder while trying to snare a Deion Sanders line drive at Yankee Stadium."

If you tell a lie long enough you start to believe it.

Thats not a legendary story at all. A legendary Bo story is him hitting a ball on top of the let field apartments at old Alex Box

I seem to remember Lyle mouton doing the same thing.

Joey and Bo had a little HR Challenge. Neither hit the top and same with Lyle and Grisham, they had some ‘one hoppers’ hit the married housing complex.

When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.

Happened in a different but similar situation. He probably shared the cute story with his daughter and actually started to remember it that way. Who cares.

This is what I was thinking. That something similar happened, and he ended up conflating the two stories. Brains are funny things. If you keep telling yourself something, you will eventually believe it happened.

As far as who cares? Sports fans? Idk.

We all have perfect memories for less than a second.. then it begins to fade. As a man of many years, I can certainly see how we all as we age can forget and rearrange out experiences. Why would Bo knowingly lie about this? Does he need the attention? NO

There is probably a long list of reasons someone would lie about this story that you can't think of right now. Human beings are messy and flawed regardless of the pedestal you put them on. It is a white lie but I would only stand by the absolute integrity of a few people on this earth and they are all people I have known well for a very long time. Strange how some people think they know the morality and motivation of people they have never met (or maybe only had a few words with).

It would be the first time Bo Jackson had to make up anything. He is the closest thing to a Marvel Sports Superhero as could be.

Ahh whatever. A legendary story is him throwing a 100 mph dart from left field. Or running on the centerfield wall like Spider-Man or something after catching a fly ball

It would be worth checking the Boston Red Sox vs Kansas City Royals July 20, 1990 game. Women in labor often deliver the next calendar day.

"Three days earlier, Jackson hurt his shoulder while trying to snare a Deion Sanders line drive at Yankee Stadium." They did research it, Bo had 0 plate appearances on july 20, 1990... based on 8 seconds worth of googling.

I wish I had read the comments first. LOL I didn't see yours soon enough, but it did the same thing to me in double posting my comment like yours. So, maybe there's something to telling lies. LOL
